Understanding Plagiarism

The act of passing off someone else's ideas or works as your own without acknowledging their originality is referred to as plagiarism. Also, pretending to be the project's creator in order to claim all the credit and falsely attributing it to you without giving credit to the original author is also unacceptable.

Direct Plagiarism

Direct plagiarism is when a passage of someone else's writing is copied verbatim, without attribution, and without using quote marks. This kind of plagiarism is typical. When a writer paraphrases another's work while making certain word or phrase modifications.

Paraphrasing Plagiarism

When a writer reuses another's work while making minor word or phrase modifications, it is known as paraphrasing plagiarism. It's a typical form of plagiarism, but even if you put someone else's original concept in your writing with your own words and without giving them credit, it's still plagiarism.

Patchwork Plagiarism

Patchwork plagiarism, often referred to as mosaic plagiarism, describes situations in which copied work is mixed in with the author's original work. This type of plagiarism may occur in conjunction with direct plagiarism and might be subtle and simple to overlook.

Self Plagiarism

Self-plagiarism, also referred to as "duplicate plagiarism," is the practice of recycling previously published material for a new project or publication while passing it off as original.

How to Avoid Plagiarism

• Always cite, paraphrase concepts from others, and write down what you understand.
• Presenting your own ideas.
• Using quotation marks.

Citation

Citation is how you tell your audience that a certain amount of the information in your work was obtained from another source. Additionally, it provides your readers with the details they need to locate that source's location on the reference.

Why is it necessary to cite sources?

• To acknowledge the writers of the original sources.

• To assist your audience to discover more about your topic.

• To Avoid Plagiarism.

Every time you include a source into your writing, a citation is required. Typically, this entails quotation. You must enclose the copied sentence in quotation marks when citing a source.
