ACHIEVEMENT TASK 2: Basic security on steemit @tayon
One of the instructions mostly emphasized during and after the course of signing up on Steemit is the importance of keeping all keys issued to you with diligence and topmost secrecy as failure to do so might get one’s steemit account vulnerable. Your steemit account can be lost without a system of recovery or hacked with all assets stolen if keys are carelessly handled. However, sequel to the completion of my first (1st) achievement task which is accessible via this link:
LINK TO MY INTRODUCTION POST: (https://steemit.com/hive-172186/@tayon/achievement-1-by-tayon-my-introduction-post-on-steemit-as-my-first-task)
this second (2nd) achievement task is intended to further emphasize our security consciousness, explain the importance of steemit keys and show how to perform basic transfer on steemit account. As a way of description, a steemit key is a combination of alphabets and numbers usually long and difficult to remember or memorize at a glance. But before I go further, let me start by answering some security questions regarding my steemit account.
QUESTION 1: Have you recovered all your keys on Steemit?
Yes I have successfully done that. Saved on my personal computer and on my phone is a PDF copy of my steemit keys. I have also taken extra security measure by having them written out, most especially the masterkey which is the mother of all keys.
QUESTION 2: Do you know the functions and limitations of each of the keys?
Yes I do. There are basically four (4) types of these keys with “master key” as mother of all these keys. These keys are:
1. POSTING KEY: It is commonly used as login pin into steemit account and also doubles as the pin for posting, upvoting editing, muting and commenting on the steemit platform. In its simplest form, it is a key used for social activities.
2. ACTIVE KEY: This key secures and grants access to steemit asset. It is used for performing transactions on steemit. This key can be used for making transfers, powering up steem to your degree of interest and also powering down. It is a transactional key.
3. OWNER KEY: This is generally an account recovery key and keys’ resetting key. In case of misplaced keys, these key can be used to reset keys and also recover compromised account.
4. MEMO KEY: the encryption and decryption of memos are easily performed in the course of making a transaction with the use of this key.
5. MASTER KEY: As the name implies, this key is the master over all keys. It is meant to be properly kept and not used except in cases when account is stolen and needs to be recovered. It is better to not use this key for daily login because if stolen or lost, it can cost one the whole account with all assets stolen or irredeemable.
QUESTION 3: What strategy would you use in keeping your master key safe?
Apart from keeping it on my device, I also have it documented in handwritten form and kept in my file.
QUESTION 4: Do you know how to transfer your Steem Token to other Steem users?
Yes I do. Let me walk you through a step by step guide on how to transfer token to other steem users:
STEP 1: Begin by login on to your steemit wallet on the official website. Note: Be sure you are filling in your details on the right website as imputing your details on an imposter website can expose your wallet to scammers. Thus visit: https://steemitwallet.com/
Note: The following supportive pictures are screenshots of my personal steemit account.
STEP 2: Properly fill in your username and preferably, your posting key as a password then click the login button.
STEP 3: After a successful sign-in, scroll to the Steem category and click on the word “steem” written in green colour bearing figures on its right-hand side and a small downwards arrow on its other side.

QUESTION 5: Do you know how to turn your steem or power-up steem?
Yes I do. This is a practice that is not alien to me as a proud member of #club100. To prove this, below is a step by step guide on how to power-up steem:
STEP 1: Begin by login on to your steemit wallet on the official website. Note: Be sure you are filling in your details on the right website as imputing your details on an imposter website can expose your wallet to scammers. Thus visit: https://steemitwallet.com/

STEP 3: After a successful sign-in, scroll to the Steem category and click on the word “steem” written in green color bearing figures on its right-hand side and a small downwards arrow on its other side.
STEP 4: Choose “power-up” from the list of options. After that, a fresh page with an empty box requesting the amount of steem you would love to power up will appear.
