Good evening fellow steemians. I trust your day was great. After a successful achievement 1 post, I am delighted to bring to you my achievement 2 post.
Today I will be talking about the basic ways to secure your steemit account, the different keys and their uses, and also how to power up STEEM.
Security is the freedom from potential harm caused by others. It is also the state of being protected from harm.
Security on Steemit simply refers to keeping your account safe from fraudsters and activities that will compromise your account.
The first security question you should ask yourself as a newcomer on Steemit is: Have I retrieved and saved all my Steem keys?
As a newcomer on Steemit, the first steps that should be taken are retrieving all your keys, writing them and in a jotter and keeping the jotter in a secure location, copying the keys and saving them in your drive . All these steps are important because you cannot recover your account if you loose your master password or owner key. Also, you should log into your account using only the appropriate keys to avoid compromising your account.
Steem keys are the basic login permissions needed to perform basic operations on the Steemit platform. There are four major keys which includes: posting key, active key, owner key and memo key. Before all these keys is the mother of all keys which is the master password.
Master Password: This is the generator of all keys. It is used when changing the password. So, it is very important to keep the master password safe.
Posting Key: This is the login key. It gives the account owner the privilege to post, comment, edit, resteem, vote, and mute or follow other accounts.
Active Key: This is used for more complex and sensitive tasks that requires top notch security such as transferring funds, converting STEEM dollars, powering up or powering down transactions, etc
Owner Key: This is a very important key because it is used to change any key of an account including the owner key. So, it is essential to keep this key very safe to avoid compromising your account. The difference between the owner key and the master password is that the master password is required for account recovery.
Memo Key: This is a written code used for encrypting and decrypting memos during funds transfer.

- Click on the drop down arrow head.
- Click on transfer.
- Enter the receiver's username, amount to be transferred, and your memo key in the appropriate boxes.
- Click on next.
- Enter your active key.
Powering up STEEM simply means converting liquid STEEM into an investment state called Steem power. The steps involved in this transaction include:

Click on wallet.
- Click on the drop down arrow head.
- Click on power up.
- Enter the amount of STEEM you want to power up and click on power up.
- Enter your power up key and click on Ok.
- Enter your active key and then click on sign in.
Finally, I can authoritatively say that I have acquired the basic knowledge needed to secure my account on steemit and I am capable of fully impacting on others and people I will be bringing to steemit platform the basic security measures that guides the Steemit community.
