Security first!
The importance of security can never be overemphasized as it is very essential in every aspect of life. Steemit is no exception as the platform is very concerned with the safety of its users' accounts that it has employed a very unique method to keeping it safe and secure. Once registration is completed, users are sent their keys which are best stored offline for future references. These keys are placed hierarchical to the other with each having different levels of function. Examples include:
Private Posting Key, Private Memo Key, Private Active Key, Private Owner Key and the Master Password.

Private Posting Key

This key grants users access to the Steemit platform. It serves as an everyday login key that enable users to engage in different common activities such as creating posts, making comments, editing, resteem as well as vote quality posts. These activities do not require a high level of security because they do not authorize any operations which can affect token balances negatively.

Private Memo Key

It is used to encrypt or decrypt private transfer memos.

Private Active Key

Private active key performs more sensitive tasks like power ups or downs, conversions, fund transfer, converting Steem Dollars, voting for witnesses, updating profile details and avatar, and placing market orders.

The Owner key

The Owner key is reserved for the purpose of changing any key.

Master Key

This generates all the other keys of an account. It is the most important on the steem ecosystem key chart. Users are usually advised to save this offline.

Transferring steem token to other Steemit users

Tokens can be transferred from one Steemit user to the other. One of the methods is to type www.steemitwallet.com/@username. This will lead to steem wallet. Here users can perform transfer funds and other tasks.

Click on the arrow by the right to choose which action to perform. I've circled some in the last image then provide the necessary details required.

How to power up STEEM
The same steps are applied. The only is that you'll click on Power Up instead. A page like this will pop up.

Finally, click on Power Up to power up STEEMS.
