How can i Keep my Steem account Secure?
You can keep your Steem account secure and safe by doing the following
Keep your master password safe, if possible write it down somewhere (offline) because if you lose it, you can't have access to your steemit account EVER AGAIN.you can also save it on Google drive or as a draft on your email,the point is that you shouldn't lose your master password.
your keys and passwords should not be shared to a third party
IMPORTANCE OF MASTER PASSWORD?
If a third party have access to your master password,the person will have access to all your keys
which will result to loss of tokens and also loss of account too. That is why it is not advisible to tell
a third party your master password. it is meant for you and you alone.KEEP IT SAFE!!!
USES OF STEEM KEYS
POSTING KEY: enables the user to make posts,edit,comment,follow other accounts and block accounts when neccesary.
ACTIVE KEY: your active key enables you to do important tasks such as transfering funds,voting,converting of steem dollars updating of your profile details and avatar.
MEMO KEY: is used to ebcrypt and decrypt memos while transferring funds.
POWER UP KEY: enables one to convert steem to power.
PUBLIC KEY: this can be used in associated transaction on blockchain
REMEDY FOR MISPLACED PASSWORD??
If you lose your password, you have lost your account
sadly nothing can be done to retrieve a lost or forgotten password. keeping your password safe is advisible.
WHAT DO I DO IF I LOSE MY PASSWORD/KEYS?
Retrieving or recovering your steem account is not possible if you lose your password or owner key. You are expected to store all your master passwords and various keys using various means such as saving it on your drafts in your email, hard drive, writing it down and keeping it in a secured safe box and also saving it on google drive.
WHAT S THE DIFFERENT BETWEEN MASTER PASSWORD AND OWNER KEY?
Master password is the password you get upon signing which is now taken to your steem wallet to enable you retrieve your other keys. Master Password s used to generate all keys as stated earlier including the owner key. The Master can be used in account recovery.
