Hello everyone, I Hope all is well. I have successfully completed my achievement 2 thanks to @ who verified my post.

In this post, I will be working on my achievement 3 about content etiquette, with special attention on plagiarism.
With the proliferation of computers it has become extrimly easy to make copies of digital materials which has also fueled plagiarism.

What is plagiarism?

Plagiarism is just a fancy name given to the act of stealing another person's intellectual work.
This crime is committed when a person introduced another person's intellectual work in to their work claiming the credit without acknowledging the source of the material using appreciate citations.
The plagerized content may be a picture, text, idea, video, audio, illustrated art, poem etc.
It would really hut to see your artwork, idea or write-up make another person famous or rich.
A good number of brilliant minds have stoped posting because their idea will be hijacked and used with no credit coming their way. Thanks to the steemit anti-plagiarism mechanisms, our ideas are greatly protected.

Types of plagiarism

Global Plagiarism:
Here the plagiarist did not just copy but took the entire work of another author and presented it as his work. Though no for of plagiarism is better, this is very bad.

Paraphrasing Plagiarism:
In this type of plagiarism, the plagiarist adjusts the content of the plagerized document, replacing words and reconstructing sentences and using synonyms. Convicting this type of plagiarism is difficult but not impossible.

** Self Plagiarism:**
A self plagiarist is one who reuses an idea in whole or part after having published the idea and getting rewarded for it. Though not heavily frowned at, I still feel it is criminal.

*Mosaic Plagiarism:
The plagiarist in this case copies ideas from different sources, brings them together to create his work.

Note that the baseline in all this forms of plagiarism centers around the fact that no citation was made pointing to the true owner of the work.

How to avoid being a plagiarist

  • If you want to read so as to get inspired, or get more information for a write-up, only collect the main point and develop it in your own words.
  • Study and write your own materials. Do not lift others work without the proper use of quotation marks followed by correct references.
Meaning, if you must bring in materials from others, use quotation marks and make a citation. Below are some examples.

"A gold mine of moneymaking information"

-STEVE FORBES
Forbes magazine

"Tony's power is superhuman...He is a catalyst for getting people to change. I came away with: it's not about motivation as much as it is allowing people to tap into what's already there"

-Oprah Windfrey
Emmy Award-winning media magnate

Try to smoothly introduce your quotes so they don't hung like the two quotation above.

Inline with the topic under consideration, Wikipedia defines plagiarism as "...the representation of another author's language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions as one's own original work"Source

The ... Are used to indicate that some words in the quotation have been omitted.

Declaration

I @veragu "...have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them"
