What is plagiarism?
Plagiarism is said to be the practice or act of taking another author's or person's article, content or work and presenting it as your own without referencing or acknowledging the owner. Plagiarism is an illegal activity, thus a great offence in academics, which is subjected to punishment like; imprisonment, confiscation of certificate, low grades and many more.
What are the different types of plagiarism ?
Plagiarism occur in numerous ways or forms, but below shows few of them;
1. Accidental plagiarism : This is a type of plagiarism that occur as a result of forgetfulness or refusal on the part of the writer to reference or cite the source of the information he or she took or copied. This type of plagiarism is mostly common among content writers.
2. Self plagiarism : This type of plagiarism occur when an author republished his or her own content on another platform or website.
3. Mosaic plagiarism : This type of plagiarism occur as a result of finding words nearly meaning (synonymous) to replace the original content of another author's to look like your own.
4. Direct plagiarism : This is a type of plagiarism that occur as a result of taking another author's content or article without making a change (word-for-word) and presenting it as your own without his or her knowledge.
What are the effects of plagiarism?
Plagiarism is a great academic offence and in steemit ecosystem, which one is meant to face the consequences like; imprisonment, confiscation of certificate, band from the institution or group etc, low grades and many more. I will like to say that every steemian must do well to avoid plagiarism since it is a bad practice in the steemit ecosystem.
How to avoid plagiarism?
One can avoid plagiarism through citation and making reference to the source of the content, using of quotation marks (“ “ ) and also proper paraphrasing.
