When we say plagiarism, it simply refers to the practice of taking a work or idea done by somebody and passing them as one’s own without their consent and full acknowledgement.

In other words, it involves representing an author’s thoughts, language and ideas as one’s original work and therefore plagiarism is considered as a violation of academic integrity and academic erudite. Below are some types of plagiarism;

Accidental plagiarism: It is when a writer fails to rearrange or paraphrase, lack of understanding and wrong quotations. Example is a student copying verbatim of what he or she sees on the internet and other sources.

Self-plagiarism: When we talk about self-plagiarism, it is when the writer uses part or entirely of a previously written work and republishes it. Self-plagiarism is also considered as academic dishonesty.

Direct plagiarism: It is when a writer adopts or takes most of his words or phrases word-for-word from another person’s source. In this context the writer may delete some words from the original source and pass them off as their own.

Mosaic plagiarism: In simple terms, mosaic plagiarism is when an author borrows phrases and words without the use of quotation marks.
This type of plagiarism is also called patchwriting. Example is a student copying quotations without quotation marks.

WHY PLAGIARISM IS UNPROFESSIONAL
First and foremost, it is a form of theft and data piracy as it involves taking ideas, phrases and words of other people without acknowledgement and credit.

It also violates the copyright laws

✓ It sends false information to the general public because the plagiarizer is doesn’t have the qualities and abilities people think he/she has.

✓ The plagiarizer benefits from theft which is
uncouth.

HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM
Try as much as possible to produce authentic and original.
There are so many ways in which we can avoid plagiarism and below are some of them.

▪ Always give credit or acknowledge the original source you are copying from.

▪ Make sure you understand the content to avoid accidental plagiarism.

▪ Study wide as to acquire vocabulary and more knowledge.

▪ Avoid direct, verbatim or word-for-word copying

WHY WE SHOULD NOT PLAGIARISE
• To gain more knowledge from learning
The content etiquette has now been understood by me and I would be very glad that this peace will be useful to members of steemit especially members of newcomers community.
