Greetings to you @steemfitnesshub and fellow steemians in this amazing community, all the best. I would like to share with you how i personally practiced our Workout- Challenge8- Planking Exercise, as instructed by our able instructor @okoriepresh27.
In this workout program, @okoriepresh27 aka instructor01, directed our attention to planking exercise.
Of course, planking exercise is a type of physical activity or exercise in which the muscles are made to work without the entire body moving thereby assisting to build the body's resistance and endurance levels and also enhancing one's vigor and body balance.
Additionally, in this workout program, instructor01 explained various types of planking exercise and their varied positions.
However, he finally singled out a particular planking exercise for our instruction or training, namely the forearm plank, this is indeed the focal point of this workout challenge.
This type of planking exercise involves the use of your elbows and forearms to support your body's weight while lying on the floor facedown and stretching out your legs, with your back on a straight position and also at the same time maintaining a flat position by not dropping yourself too low or too high.
When i was practicing this forearm plank exercise, the following muscles were put to work and they're the central, belly( abdominal), spine(backbone), forearm, arm and leg muscles.
I took the following steps during my practice and they're :
Step 1: I took a lying posture facedown, using my two elbows and forearms to support my body's weight while also stretching out my legs as long as i could do it, with my back on a straight position and also maintaining a flat position by not dropping myself too low or too high.
Besides, i placed my two palms flat on the floor.
The following pictures taken from different positions vividly illustrate these points, check them out.
Step 2: When i started feeling some pains on my wrists after placing my palms flat on the floor, i then folded the palms, as indicated below.
Step 3: I ensured that my two elbows were below my shoulder and arms, with both of my hands being just the width of my shoulder apart.
Step 4: With this position still maintained, i pressed my belly muscles firmly towards my backbone(spine).
Step 5: I firmly pressed my buttocks and backbone muscles as much as i could, and also kept my neck straight and breathed properly as well.
The forearm plank exercise wasn' t easy for me at first perhaps due to it's strenuous position, hence i rested for few seconds before i continued.
When i placed my palms flat on the floor, i felt hurt on my wrists, hence i folded the palms, according to our instructor01's direction, as shown in two of the images above.
Moreso, immediately i embarked on the workout challenge, which is the forearm plank exercise, i began sweating profusely. Also, my elbows and my stretched out legs started paining me and of course this pain could possibly be as a result of the strenuous position involved in this physical activity added to the texture of the mat that i used during this practice which is coarse or rough.
Because of the exertion of strength that was involved in the course of this exercise, my palpitation was initially fast, but after some few minutes, i enjoyed the practice.
- After practicing the planking exercise, i became more physically active and agile.
- It enhances the body's flexibility.
- It touches up the body's coordination and balance.
3.Polishes mental health.
4.Sheds abdominal(belly) fat. - Reinforces cardiovascular health.
In conclusion, i thank @steemfitnesshub for initiating this great community and also for organizing these physical fitness contests that offer practical training on how to lead a healthy life via various physical activities.
