Sustainable Development Goals 2030 (SDGs 2030) and its impacts on 2nd and 3rd world countries

What is the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?

This goal’s objective is to make sure that poverty does not continue to exist in third world countries. The SDGs helps promote developing an economy, protecting our environment, and improving healthcare. There are 17 goals with 169 targets, covering 5 areas: sustainable economic growth; universal education; food security and good health; gender equality & empowerment of all women & girls; reduced inequalities. These goals have been taken as a guideline by both developing and developed nations alike.

What are the Sustainable Development Goals?

The SDGs will be addressed from three angles. The first angle is to mitigate poverty. Poverty in third world countries is high as the standard of living is low, and infrastructure is underdeveloped. A way to reduce poverty through sustainable development is to promote education, healthcare, clean water and sanitation, among other things. The second angle of the SDG will address environment-friendly policies and governance. This includes implementing environmental technology across all industries, reducing pollution level, conserving resources and local materials for reuse and recovering ecosystems as well as minimizing human-induced climate change. The last element in this approach deals with social development. Many third world countries are characterized by high rates of inequality, gender discrimination as well as cultural and religious barriers which hinder the progress of women and the poor. Growth in social development is to ensure all citizens have equal access to opportunities and resources.

What are the implications of SDGs on 2nd & 3rd world countries?

The impacts for developing nations have been both positive and negative. The positives include increased foreign investments, more advanced technology and education, and new markets. On the other hand, both 2nd & 3rd world countries may lack the technical skill set or resources to implement policies that facilitate these goals. On one hand, the SDGs have enabled developing countries to adopt new technologies which helped their economies grow and the standard of living increased. Health benefits has been witnessed as healthier people leads to a happier community. The disadvantages are that growth is temporary and inequality becomes larger over time.

The SDGs has led to many changes for developed nations, especially in developed countries such as Ireland, Finland, New Zealand and Denmark. However, not all aspects of the SDGs have been accepted by developed countries due to their negative effects on their economies and productivity. For example, in 19th century Britain, when rapid industrialization was embraced by many European countries such as France and Germany; child labour was common practice at the time. However, the Industrial Revolution helped them become upper and middle class. Now, with the SDG's goal to reduce child labour, many people grudgingly accept this policy. However, these negative aspects may affect developed countries in the long run such as low skilled workers losing out on jobs and inequality increasing over time due to lack of growth.

There are many implications for developing nations in terms of resource management and waste disposal. Sustainable development has been viewed as an efficient resource management strategy which uses resources efficiently and minimizes waste. For example, sustainable development can be seen as a successful recycling program when valid reasons for segregation can be identified. If a country is allowed to use its resources in the wild, it will produce less waste and may produce less pollution. Originally, the SDGs has been viewed as a way to reduce poverty and achieve sustainable development. However, this view has been criticized for lacking specific policies that promote sustainable principles which can have potentially negative consequences on the environment. This is especially true in developing countries where waste disposal has not been adequately addressed. Also, many developing nations have seen an increase in extreme cases of poverty due to economic contraction as nations respond to the standards of living required by SDG's goals.

This goal has been criticized because it focuses on sustainable consumption, production, and waste management. However, this does not address the issue of improving standard of living for people in developing countries. Moreover, achieving sustainable development may have other negative impacts. If a country successfully implements these goals, they may have a positive economic impact for a while but that would not be sustainable as standards of living improve for citizens. This is especially true in more developed nations where resources are running out due to increasing population levels and resulting scarcity.

The SDGs are a set of global goals that will affect the lives of all nations. These 17 goals are to protect the environment, improve healthcare, promote growth and provide opportunities for all. To achieve this, many developing countries face challenges such as economic changes and an increase in inequality levels affecting citizens provide on education, a reduce national poverty level. and On inequality the and other prevent hand, climate developed change countries among face many difficulties other such issues.

Here are some examples of causes of global warming:

Climate change variations have been observed resulting from changes in climate patterns caused by human industry. A study conducted at Stanford University analyzed a comparison between 1880 and 2010 using 25 climate variables including CO2 concentration, temperature, water vapor content and different types of precipitation. The study found that the average temperature has increased by 0.5 Degrees Celsius and the average concentration of CO2 has doubled. Stanford also found that there are global changes in climate patterns due to increased levels of CO2. Climate change ranges from an increase to decrease in precipitation, increases in drought and increases in storm intensity.

Why are SGDs important for us?

Changes in ocean levels have been observed as a result of increasing carbon dioxide emissions since 1750. Ocean levels have risen by an average of 0.7 millimeters per year between 1900 and 2003 and have continued to rise at an annual rate of about 1 millimeter per year since 2007 according to NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS). are expected to rise to an average of 17 to 33 inches in total. This could have devastating effects on coastal communities and their economies. These areas are vulnerable due to increasing CO2 levels that are causing a warming climate and sea level rise. If inhabitants of coastal areas do not prepare for the possibility of rising sea levels, they will lose their land, as well as their jobs, since many industries depend on water.

By the year 2100, 600 million people will be affected by sea level rises which is about 10% of the current population. There are certain cities that will be affected more heavily such as Cairns, Australia, Kingston, Canada and Lagos, Nigeria. This goal is not only about protecting the environment but also about preserving coastal communities and the economies that depend on their tourism-based industries. Countries like Bangladesh are very vulnerable to rising sea levels since nearly 160 million people live in a flood zone.

Air pollution has become a form of environmental degradation that directly affects human health. It negatively affects the well-being of people by increasing stress levels as well as causing respiratory problems because polluted air contains higher amounts of particles such as smog pollution and carbon dioxide (CO2), which crowds the air we breathe. Soil and water contamination, as well as acid rain, are also a result of air pollution. It is important to note that CO2 emissions are the largest source of air pollution thus contributing to this goal.
The main aim is to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels and improve access to electric power in less developed countries and developing countries over the next 15 years. The SDGs would help support adaptation and mitigation strategies, thereby helping developing nations reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. By 2030, a full decarbonization of worldwide has been adopted. This has led industrialized nations to adopt a new approach: a market-based system with flexibility in different parts of the world to meet each country's needs for electricity generation. In this case, electric power generation has been selected as the way to reduce GHG emissions. Another challenge that many developing countries face is the lack of electricity but in a globalized world, technology can be used to provide things such as improved access to banking, education and communication systems.

Way forward

The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) was initiated in 1996 by the UNFCC within its Kyoto Protocol. The goal of the CDM is to make projects that reduce GHG emissions available for developing nations in order to help them reduce their emissions and change their lifestyle so they do not have an impact on global climate change.
