Takatalvi in Southern Finland

in hive-174578 •  4 years ago

Takatalvi is a Finnish word literally meaning "backwinter", i.e. a cold spell in the spring. In Finland, the phenomenon is very common.

It happened in Southern Finland yesterday. Spring was in full swing and suddenly we got cold weather and a lot of snow.

Of course it is - I need to move house :D

:D

Both British and American English have a specific word for a cold snap during the spring as in winter-like conditions making a comeback. I once even made a post about it and went as far as to find out what those words are. But I've forgotten them. I've tried googling them up but have failed to find anything. One of them had something to do with berries.

Blackberry winter? :)

That's sounds like it. I even made a post about it but finding it was well nigh impossible.

Amazing phenomenon! And wonderful photos! ;)
