Why dont Steem users diversify their risk?

I am certainly not a financial or investment expert, but some fundemental advice seems to be "buy low, sell high" and "diversify your risk". It seems that there is a culture on Steem to power up as much as possible, with few seeming to trade and develop a diverse portfolio of crypto coins.

I understand that early on when people join Steem they want to powerup to get some RCs and have their vote worth something (fair enough!). However, how much SP is enough before we should atleast consider trading and diversifying - 100, 500, 1000, 5000SP?

Powering up comes with significant risk (the main one being your SP is 'locked in' and thus not liquid - this is much like a term deposit at a bank. For this 'investment' users can earn passive rewards through delegation and curation.

I know we all have faith that Steem will succeed, but what if it doesnt and all your cryto is in SP and you need to wait to power down? Extremely unlikely I know but it could happen! Seems better to diversify and have some liquid crypto - Steem, SBD, Bitcoin, Litecoin or even Dogecoin....

I know everyone isnt happy when people earn here and then power down or trade and see it as being a traitor - but maybe its being smart. And anyway, at the end of the day it is your stake and you can use it how you like!

Thoughts?!

So true - HODLers are either shills or morons! - After selling my Steem in 2018 I walked away with good profits - now I would only power up to about 500sp to keep a slider, and trade in and out of liquid Steem if it looks like something might happen.

That's the fanaticism of cryptocurrency people pick sides and are all in which is why diversified strategies work, if everybody did it no one would make money from it lol. I guess people here can also diversify by earning tokens or splinterlands cards etc since those things aren't necessarily tied to the success of the chain and can be ported to another or run with integration with another.

I'm happy to earn steem and bought in the past but all I buy now is BTC once I'm a whole coiner ill focus on alts again

Yeah thats true as time goes on there are more tokens here to diversify with - the great thing about Steem.

In thinking about powering down about 1k SP and investing in other cryptos
