Here's one way Justin Sun could successfully profit from destroying Steem:

in hive-174578 •  5 years ago

Step 1: Create a powerful dApp/interface for Tron and Steem

If there's something that we can't doubt, it's that Justin Sun has the ability to run successful businesses. Creating a great social-network interface for Steem would be a piece of cake, there are already many to take from (Busy, Steemit, Steempeak) and he has DLive devs and many more to simply assign to the project.

Step 2: Sabotage Steem witnesses

Through a long process of waiting, attacking, convincing and playing image games, Justin could destroy Steem's viability using many strategies that have already been discussed.

Possibilities off the top of my head:

  • Creating a parallel 20 witnesses and pumping them to the top.
  • Doing counter-propaganda
  • Damaging each witness separately or creating unfortunate circumstances to disincentivise people.
  • Creating "temporary measures" that would be intended to destabilise the system.

Before you think this would not be in his interest, read through the next step.

Step 3: Launch para-Steem on Tron network

One common pro-Justin view is that he would not profit from creating a para-Steem because he holds a lot of our Steem. However, if he creates his own para-Steem, he can own as much Steem on that parallel blockchain... If he makes it so that this Steem has the same value, he has earned.

Steem would have held its ground before the sabotage, but now there is a lot of incentive to jump ship. Tron would smoothly absorb Steem and keep an enormous userbase like when DLive broke ties with Steem.

Step 4: ???

Step 5: Profit

There would be a parallel Steem fork running by the original witnesses, but the money to run the miners would be less than the Steem they would potentially make by keeping them online. This would force the driest bear market there has been on the ecosystem.

The more I've been thinking about it the more I think he knows Tron has its limitations in the west and I think it may be a strategic move to have something loosely affiliated with Tron that has a go-between with value. If it were me I'd position Steem in the west and Tron in the east and run them simultaneously and keep them growing. From a business and self-interest sense, this would without a doubt make the most money

I'm thinking that way too. I hadn't thought about the East/West thing, but about the fact that both blockchains and ecosystems lack points that the others have. I made my post because I was challenged to find an attack angle, but I think it's more likely that it be a business complementary move as you say.

Indeed! The Tron blockchain can be used for thinks like storage for dapps for example we can reduce our reliance on AWS and store some things in the BitTorrent there’s so many ways to integrate a multilayer solution it just gives dapps more flexabilty at the end of the day they’re both just databases with diffrent pros and cons

Cool idea. I also hadn't thought of that. Busy already uses ipfs which is decentralised. Steempeak, I don't know. Probably not. BitTorrent would create a cool and scalable solution for all Steem-based dapps. I wonder if they'll integrate it this way. I wonder if they'll also allow normal file-sharing and who knows what else.

I think it’s still to early to tell I think steemit inc will staff up and finish their roadmap and once all that is in place they’ll probably look at these overlaps and how they can leverage each other

We should also be asking JS to get a move on getting Steem listed on more exchanges! It can’t all be aboht dev but getting more eyes and avenues into steem too

Which business philosophy will succeed?

Lol can’t we have the best of both?

after all the listening and reading yesterday, I'm a lot more confident that this move buying steemit inc. could be rather good for us as a community. The day before when the announcement was posted, I was more like "oh fuck, I need to setup API and witness servers to help deploy the atomic fork".
"Alles wird gut" - sagt man auf deutsch...

"all is good", we say in German

Yeah, I'm also not as unconfident as before. I was really terrified. Now I think it's more likely that everything is going to be alright, and in fact we can use it as positive.

However, I was thinking that some people said it was impossible, and other people were asking for attack angle ideas, and I had thought of this one, so I said, why not share it. Because even if things are looking up, if people aren't aware of the dangers ahead, problems can arise when the unexpected happens.

Hey there this could go anywhere...
Let's hope Sun keeps his head about him for all concerned.

I also think he's got a bit of common sense, we'll see how things go.

I also think he's
Got a bit of common sense,
We'll see how things go.

I attempted to give some sort of first impression then got real bad gut reaction but tried to just hear it out. I honestly have talked of red flags and things and sometimes got very bad feedback and hostility (lack of votes etc.) for not staking because after D-Live I realllly didn't trust Ned.

The timing at the VOICE beta launch isn't coincidental and neither is the now deleted tweet saying we are somehow eos based and other false information which seems to be how it's being played. I'm powered down on all fronts except for basically dust so have been writing for about nothing for at least a year and a half.

You have a great blog

Thank you :) I always like keeping the quality up.

Have you been getting criticism lately? I vote everywhere. I wish I could give everyone big votes all the time, but there are so many people and so few votes haha!

I see your point, I don't judge people for not staking or even straight-out leaving Steem. It's hard to stay optimistic when the market is so bearish and the investors are so intent on cashing out.

While I've understood these problems since they started happening, I somehow reason it out as "secondary" and keep powering up.

I think it all comes back to when I used to make more money and I didn't save it. I wasted it all on clothes I never wear, a phone that I got stolen from me, etc. I don't have one penny from when I made thousands by working at back-breaking hours. I wanted to reward myself and I did so by buying myself lots of stuff. My currency devalues so fast that the best way I saw to keep it was to use it.

Now, even through all of those bad things we can both see, I want to have a future. I don't know any other way to store my money. I don't have a bank account in dollars and the last time I "hedl" I lost all my money due to bad choice in altcoins. Steem is the only investment I know that has kept my money growing for 2 years. I started at 0 and now have the equivalent of $1500.

I don't know if things are going awry right now. I see the bad things happening, and the good ones, and I just know that I've earned here and don't know anything else.

What do you think? I'm a bit lost and feel like this is the best thing around despite the circumstances.
