One of the best things about spring are the blooming flowers.
Flower... flowers everywhere! (imagine the Toy Story meme here).
Majority is yellow I noticed, but there is so many white ones, pink, purple and blue. Walking arouns some open area I feel like in a candy store. I just wanna shoot them all! Even if they are the same :)

This is one of those adorable, little pink ones I see only in spring. Right now is the start of their blooming season and will last until the end of May. Then when it gets hot other flowers will take over.
Right now, where things just start to grow Silene has a chance to shine. The are very small, maybe 7 cm tall max with the flower about 1,5 cm across. Most of the time I have seen single little plants with one or two flower. The bush you see here was the largest clump I have ever found. I could see it from a larger distance - the bright pink was really visible among the just starting to grow vegetation. Most flowers around was also just white and yellow.

Despite the small size it is a tough little cookie. In Portugal it grows all along the coastline on those very poor and sandy soil. I found it further away from the coast among pine trees and bushes, but also on the dunes right outside the beach where not many things grow. Many times they are half dug in the sand with just the pink flowers sticking out.

I was lucky to find one ugly bugger on the flower. This is Lytta vesicatoria also called a Spanish fly ;). Yea.. that's the one that contains some aphrodisiac like substance. Do not eat it though! It doesn't look tasty. It is a pretty insect though with the very shiny, dark green wings. I just took a few shots and left it alone. Me and frying beetles are not buddies.

Here is one I found on the beach.
Amazing how it can survive there.
