There were weaknesses in DPoS exploited in the past few weeks which need to be addressed. But this is not the end of DPoS in my opinion. Things can be fixed and improved.

It will not be fixed by dragging the vested interests into the next incarnation, that is not any different other than a 30 day cool down period for witness voting. The banning of accounts which disagreed with the fork is another example of the egos involved in this from both sides. The way the Korean community was treated was unprecedented in blockchain forks.
