Massive Wolf sculpt/build

in hive-174578 •  5 years ago

Hey all, I'd like to share a wolf that I carved for a great customer. 7ft tall and 7.5ft long, the largest wolf I ever carved.

Started out as a few logs that otherwise would have ended up in a landfill. Hahaha I saved them from that fate and gave them a new life.

Found her front end..

Her rear end...
This is what we call the blocking stage, carving it bulky but outside the lines. Can always take away, but can't put it back once you cut it off..

Unless you need her tail...here's my brother holding up her tail while I fasten the block to her behind. I used gorilla glue and timber screws to hold it there until the glue sets.

Once ready, the screws will be removed and refining begins...she's all there

I had to step back more than I can count. Wasn't happy with her at this stage...

Still wasn't happy, and after sharing pictures with the client, neither were they.
Uh oh they wanted a more aggressive look...

What do you do? Cut it off..luckily there was just enough wood there to give her a little snarl.

Success! A very happy customer drove 650 miles to pick her up.

Nice work, I Like the way to you constructed the different parts and integrated the seam lines.

@ammonite thank you, definitely more challenging on the larger scale.

I love cutting logs with my chainsaw's, it's one of my fav activities :)

I am sooo impressed. Amazing work!!!!

Master of masters! This is amazing, congratulations!

Very cool work! Well done!

This is amazing. Really beautiful. Great work

G'day Jon,

Wow, are you serious? This looks mad dude! I

have to agree that the more aggressive look was the way to go...Kind of looks tough now, like he means business. Nice work. What sort of tools were used and roughly how long did it take?

I curated this for @curangel mate. keep it coming!

Thank you @galenkp I used the chainsaw mostly, as well as dremels and chisels for tighter areas. Took a few weeks or more overall from start to finish

Gotta love some chainsaw work. Mine never comes out like that...I just get logs and sawdust.

Love me some Dremel-action too!

Congratulations @jonatftforest!
