Is this my last post on Steemit ever?

This is the end, or is it just the beginning? A journey on the steemtrain is ending. We are all alighting, getting off, powering down, taking our ball and going to play somewhere else. Because this place now sucks. Steemit is owned by a conman who none of us will ever trust, so why waste time here?

Steem token is no longer a cryptocurrency in the true sense of the words, as propounded by Lord Satoshi. It is a plaything in the hands of a cheater. Today is the end of Steemit, in its pure form. It may continue but who in their right mind would carry on under a conman? So goodbye steemit and hello Hive.

It’s time to jump ship guys, say goodbye and head for the life raft, or the new port of call – Hive. As I write this I feel like the guy who has jumped overboard to flee the sinking ship, but am still in the water floundering about, not quite sure what to do. How do I save my steem tokens, and also get the Hive airdrop. I want my cake and eat it. But there may be some dump or even worse, crash in the steem price in the coming hours. No one knows what might happen now.

So we simply wait for the devs to open the gates to the new Hive platform so that we can post our very first Hive blog post. It’s a joyous moment to be at the launch of a brand new platform. So this is not a loss but a gain, or at least a swap for more of the same. Steemit has brought the best out of me, via creative writing and info sharing. I will always appreciate that. Unfortunately we are forced by circumstances, by politics and greed and criminality to exodus to the new holy land.

But then such is the world of cryptocurrency. Eleven years on, many new blockchains and it’s still the wild west. The system is still in its infancy and these teething troubles will abound. We still need to find a secure blockchain. Oh wait we already have one – Bitcoin! The original, the one, the leader. All the rest are attempts at imitation. Nice of you to think DPoS would work, but it doesn’t.

And that stupid idea of a ninja-mined stake at the start, FAIL. This is how we learn, by our mistakes. Can’t blame Larimer or Scott, they were trying a revolutionary new system. And today we see that it failed. Proof of work PoW baby! Anyway, here we sit, you guys are still trying to make DPoS work. Well I don’t believe in it, but hey, I have no choice if I want to blog and earn money for food, so here I am.
We will remember you and your fail fondly Steemit, and the pioneers who showed us how NOT to build a blockchain. We thank you for your efforts. As for Hive – what’s stopping the same witness wars, the same disgusting fights that went on in Steemit long before the conman bought it and killed it? Steemit was already a failed state, so why should Hive be any different? It won’t. The same philosophy holds true that the dude with the biggest stake wins, the Yank with the biggest buck rules. Feeble.

Anyway, I’m just an amateur, I know very little about development or coding. But I know social dynamics and human nature, and I know that we need iron clad rules in place to prevent the natural instinct to lie, cheat and steal, to game the system, to selfishly profit in any way possible without getting caught. You can’t fork human nature. So I see the foresee the same weakness coming in Hive as we saw in the failed DPoS Steemit.

The human element is the weakest link in the code. And so I may sound bitter or sour or salty, or whatever the opposite of sweet is, but in my old age now, I can speak from observation of human nature and tell you that it has an ugly side and always will have. We would never rely on a “gentleman’s agreement” nowadays because we are all fully aware of the corrupt nature of humans. Only a naive youth would think he can trust anyone at all. That’s why cryptocurrency is a “trustless” system, based on smart contracts, written in code, that can’t be changed...in theory.

Well, this is goodbye to Steemit. I never got a chance to use or spend even one single steem token in all these months or years. And now they could all go up in smoke, turn to moondust. So let’s hope you guys at Hive do the right thing. I will be watching.
