CAMPING IN CAP SERRAT IN TUNISIA

After sport fishing, camping in Tunisia is the second favorite outdoor activity for Tunisian adventurers during the summer. In this story, I will give you my account of my last campsite in Cap Serrat, in the north of Tunisia.

Departure to Cap Serrat

Cap Serrat beach is located in the far north of Tunisia, precisely at km 49 coming from Bizerte towards Tabarka.

To get to Cap Serrat below are the recommended roads:

  • From Tunis (120 km) take the road towards Mateur, Sejnane then Cap Serrat.
  • From Bizerte (75 km) take the direction of Tabarka then at km 49 the roundabout indicates the road to Cap Serrat.
  • From Tabarka (80 km) take the direction of Nefza then Sejnane, before arriving in Sejnane and after crossing Tamra take the Bizerte deviation on the left and after 10 km you will find the roundabout which indicates the road to Cap Serrat .

You can also trust Google Maps Navigator, which can be your free GPS on your smartphone. On the other hand, you have to be careful, since its recent update, the tracks are also considered as roads.

For my part, I tested the Tunis - Menzel Bourguiba - Cap Serrat road for the driveway, and Cap Serrat - Bizerte - Tunis for the return. And I sincerely find the second option better and above all we spent much less time. Because the road between Menzel Bourguiba and Cap Serrat has been under construction for 4 years already, unpaved, dusty and full of stones in the middle.

Car park

When you arrive at the beach you will find that there is a kind of parking lot in front of the hostels, cafes and residences, so you won't have to worry about your car.

Choice of campsite in Cap Serrat

Once there, you will have a wide choice of places to place your tent.

At the river's edge

Under the trees a few meters from the river, you can place your tent, on the other hand you have to come early enough, a lot of families already occupy these places with tents of 7 - 8 people for some.

At the seaside
With a few kilometers of beach, you have enough room to camp, you can always shift to the right, this is where there are fewer people.

Isolated coves

These beaches are full of secluded coves accessible only by sea. You only have to negotiate with a fisherman or the staff of the hostel to take you there by boat and come back to pick you up the next day, for example.

security

For 3 nights, I had no problem with anyone. The beach is very family friendly, from time to time patrols by the National Guard. In the evening, the beach is often populated by surfcasting and fishing enthusiasts in Tunisia, but also by several families during weekends and holidays.

Respect for the premises

It should be noted that the inhabitants of these rural areas are quite conservative, certain irresponsible behaviors can generate unwanted reactions. So for your campsite to be very pleasant, you must know how to respect the locals and make yourself more comfortable once in coves or isolated beaches.
