Accustomed to travel, I am particularly fond of my country Tunisia because of its original culture and almost the opposite of that of the West. I am very passionate about ancestral habits and customs, and I am also intrigued by the different kinds of taboos and the place attributed to the local religion. But beyond these practices, I particularly like to multiply my experiences by visiting magnificent corners of the world, with extraordinary culinary traditions and particularities.
Well recently, I had the chance to discover Djerba. This island off the Tunisian coast. An experience that I will certainly never forget.
A breathtaking view of a stretch of fine sand
Djerba is simply magnificent. There are no other words to describe it simply. With its decorative coconut and palm trees, its endless beaches and its peaceful and relaxing landscape, it seduced me on my first visits. Almost all hotels are built in a haven of pure vegetation where it is always good to linger. The fauna and flora, as desired by nature meet beautifully in Djerba.
Comparing it to the Garden of Eden might be a little too much, or not, it depends. Djerba remains, in my opinion, a favorite place for total rest with family or couples. And it is certainly not for nothing that it is one of the most popular tourist destinations. The beaches are not far from where people live. This allows a quick and easy coming and going. At the same time, various activities take place on the edge to spice up the tropical atmosphere already strongly pronounced in this region.
A rich local culture as well as splendid historical monuments
Of course, when we travel, we also try to educate ourselves. And Djerba has no shortage of interesting historical sites. From synagogues to museums, mosques and parks, Djerba has an enriching history dating back to the Trojan War period. For the most passionate, like me, this kind of cultural visit remains completely informative and pleasant. I was able to visit several cities during my stay: Houmt Souk, Djerba city, Gabes, and Midoun. But it is in the latter that I spent most of my time since it is full of so much extraordinary information.
Midoun already has many luxury hotels. In addition, there is the Djerba park which houses a very impressive crocodile farm, a typical Djerbian garden, parks for local animals such as dromedaries, sites relating the ancient activities of the ancestral population such as olive presses. But at the same time, Midoun is also the location of a large local hammam. Ideal for cooling off and taking care of your well-being.
Anyway, for my first satisfactory visit, I was able to discover Midoun. But Djerba has other cities that are just as interesting. I already plan to repeat this experience. Local dishes and Djerbian specialties, typically Mediterranean, are also among my priorities for the next season of my idyllic trip to Djerba.
