Just yesterday I made a post about the woeful condition of Nigerians living in Nigeria especially as it relates with COVID19, I wasn't going to but I did. Today I had something totally different in mind, but I woke up to a horrible news that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission plans to increase tariff for electricity on the 1st of April, even while everyone is on shutdown. Can this place really get any worse? I'm not the type to complain, but these things keep pushing and eating into your skin, it is disheartening actually.
Why is survival so hard in this part of the world? Yesterday I mentioned how hard it was to stock up perishable goods because of inadequate electricity supply, today, there's a news to increase electricity tariff. Other governments are making attempts to make the lockdown bearable for their average citizen, Nigerian government seeks to suck life out of you. Internet access remains expensive, price of food stuff are getting inflated, fuel is scarce, there's no light, have you heard about the Stimulus check?
Americans will be receiving a $1,200 check as well as another $500 for each child, Nigeria should be thrown in the dustbin.
I understand that the two countries are not economically comparable, my reference is not the ACT, but on the ACTION. What will my Nigerian government do instead?
Yes they have, with no proof, no accountability, no transparency, more embezzling, more stealing....but ofcourse they have started. I mean, why are they even transferring cash to the poorest households instead of providing food? Relief kits? Reduce electricity tarriff? Reduce cost for internet access? After initiating a lockdown, are people going to eat cash? How much is being disbursed? I mostly avoid talking about these things concerning Nigeria, but at this point I just have to let the world know what's happening here.
If you check the post I made yesterday, It contains the progression of the spread of the COVID19 virus from 25th of March. This image above is the latest update as at yesterday, 20 new cases were detected between yesterday and today, mind you, these are just scooped numbers from the few who could get tested.
Yesterday I read that America has tested 1million people with a capacity of testing 100,000 daily, here in Nigeria we don't even have the data to confirm how many have been tested or can be tested in a day.
Eventually, if we all aren't dead infected by the end of COVIDs tenure, then maybe everyone will just skip the tests and treat themselves. I said I was going to step out yesterday and take pictures to show you how things presently are in my environment, well I ended up not doing that, I wasn't in the mood. Maybe today. I need some sort of good news around me...around the world.
Thank you for reading.
