Look! We've Actually Grown Something!

I just wanted to share some pictures of our crops. It's not much to look at, but we are proud of them, since we don't usually have much luck with plants.

It's kind of weird to get all excited about a plate of tomatoes. Especially since it takes so long to get just a few of them to grow while you can just go to the store and buy them in 10 minutes.

Why even bother?

Well, there is something that you don't appreciate until you've put some energy into producing your own food. When you go to eat that food, you appreciate every single bite. You eat it slower and appreciate the flavor.

After all, now you are invested in that food. You grew it yourself! You watered it, and fed it.

We also grew these absolutely delicious figs. They were so tasty that it got me really thinking about why grocery bought fruit seems to taste like nothing these days.

Have my taste buds gone numb?

Actually, no! When growing your own food, you'll quickly come to realize that everything that you buy at the grocery store has been picked way too early. Most of the fruit you buy at the store will never ripen.

Especially if you bring it home and throw it right into the fridge. I've found that some fruits never ripen properly even if you stick them in the window. They just rot flavorless.

Even if you live in a small apartment, I would recommend growing at least something edible. Eating something that you grew yourself is such a satisfying experience!

Now if I could just get my pepper plants to produce more of those yummy cajun peppers. I need them for my salsa!

You're a lucky man. I wish I lived in a house with a big yard to grow my fruit too. Enjoy your harvest. 🤪

Well, I have a confession - I actually made this post before I moved into the apartment I live in now. At this point, all of our veggies are balcony veggies. lol!

Oh! That's bad! Well at least you have a balcony! 🤪
