It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. At this point, I'd welcome the normalist of times. Currently, I know of six friends and family members who are going through major, life-changing experiences. And that doesn't include the huge changes in my own life. As is the nature of change, some of it is positive and some of it is negative.
Sometimes the change seems positive in the present, but ends up leading us to a negative place. And vice versa. I'm learning to stop overreacting in the moment. Or is it just reacting? Typically, spontaneous reactions are overreactions. But, sometimes those initials reactions are correct. Confused? Now you know how I've felt for the past flummadiddle months.
I'm not the type of person who seeks to manufacture excitement or drama. I'm not bored. I find life fascinating. That's probably why I don't watch a lot of movies. The real world is so much more interesting than the tired tropes Hollywood likes to regurgitate. Because of this, I generally don't look to alter my life in any major way.
Or, maybe that's just what I tell myself so I don't have to acknowledge how afraid I am of change. There's too much uncertainty involved and I'm the type of person who likes to know. When my birthday comes around, I fear the dreaded surprise party. The unknown is, both, exciting and terrifying. Excitement that I am never consciously looking for. There's really no stopping change, though. If you're living life, you're going to experience it. It's unavoidable.
I was never a member of the Boy Scouts, but their motto is the best advice for dealing with change. "Be Prepared." We never know what obstacles life will throw at us or when; but, they won't impact our life as drastically if we are prepared for their guaranteed arrival. Easier said than done, I know.
With so much change and unknown surrounding my life, I've stopped making long-term plans. My life has become a day-to-day affair. Some of the change I've thought about for a long time so I'm somewhat prepared for it. However, some of the other changes threw off my timeline just a bit. Life, as it does, made that decision for me. So here I am. Maybe this will all end up becoming the change I've always needed. Maybe this new path will lead me to a better place. I guess, only time will tell.
