Hippo's are many in our country and here is an art example!

This flea market is situated in the Western Cape Province of South Africa, come and join us on our morning visit to the flea market as I have something for everybody here. We go here to fetch a bar of pure glycerin soap once every month and I cut the bar into smaller pieces back at home. We also get our pants from a stall here, made by a friendly old lady and they cost a huge amount less that what we can buy in the shops.
There are a very wide variety of goods on sale at this market and you are welcome to browse through the pictures below.
Come walk with us and feast your eyes!

IMG_3434.JPG

Two new artworks here, this and the picture above is by an artist that works with scrap metals!

IMG_3435.JPG

Old gas containers that are now converted into piglet flower pots!

IMG_3436.JPG

Oink, oink, look at me now as a flower pot hahaha!

IMG_3437.JPG

I love yellow wood and this crafter is a master, as the natural colors of the wood are beautiful!

IMG_3438.JPG

The knots in the wood turn the crafted articles into stunning pictures!

IMG_3440.JPG

Don't know what to do with your Ostrich egg shell after you have emptied it? Well, simply make a candle holder!

IMG_3444.JPG

Stall owners bring their little mutts with them for market day!

IMG_3447.JPG

This little lady is a "pocket Yorkshire Terrier" and such a friendly little one!

IMG_3453.JPG

This hippo is a sample of the works made by the wire and beads crafters!

IMG_3450.JPG

Of course they also have a golden lion king. This is Africa after all!

IMG_3475.JPG

Animal hats for toddlers in support of a local stray animal shelter!

IMG_3476.JPG

Some little dolls to keep the children of visitors busy!

IMG_3477.JPG

Here's the pub where the dogs of the stall owners and visiting dogs slake their thirst.
That's so cool, as now the visitors don't have to carry water for the mutts with them.

IMG_3478.JPG

And finally have a look at the arty table cloths that this guy makes.
I don't know what kind of ink he uses, as one can wash and iron the cloths!

And That's All Folks!

We hope that you have enjoyed the visit to the market and as I have posted before about this place, most of the stall owners are pensioners that are doing the things that they love for an extra income. A league of nations also visit the market and it is a hive of activity.
All of the photos were taken by me today and if there are one or two similar subjects that I have posted before, rest assured that it is not the same photo and a comparison will show that.

Late edit! I almost forgot, here's the first full moon of 2020!

IMG_3340.JPG

I am going out tonight again to catch the moon in the mountains!
Will post it tomorrow.

The state pensions are tiny amounts over here and it is always a pleasure to support the old people where we can, but unfortunately we are also not flush and we have to do what we can. The great thing here is that each item is made with love and one can feel the spirit of community at this market. Everybody talks to anybody and it is a very friendly place.
Instead of sitting lonely and moping at home, the old people have found a pleasant way, not only to keep themselves busy, but also to do what they love to do. A win-win situation for everybody!

Note; All photos and words are 100% my own. Photos are unedited except for re-sizing them for uploading purposes!

We hope that you have enjoyed the pictures and thank you for the visit to a blog of @papilloncharity

Such beautiful art! Lovely that the pensioners have a place to showcase and sell there works plus socialize - much better than being locked away at home all by yourself!
Beautiful full moon! I'm looking forward to seeing your photos over the mountains! I got out in the -30 Celsius and caught some beautiful photos as it rose above the towering spruce and pine!

I will have a look my friend. The power cuts really make our lives difficult here and I have to climb the mountain of activity here on steemit as best as I can. So please forgive if I am a bit late at getting to you.
Glad that you can take such excellent photos with the SX60.
Blessings!

you find the coolest of art, I love it all but those flower pots were so fun colorful and quirky I would have grabbed one

Cheers and !BEER

Oink, oink those old gas tanks could never have thought that they would become flower pots JJ.
Thank you for the kind token my friend.
Happy Sunday to you guys!

I have a thing for recycled Art I think its so good to make use of things that would be otherwise thrown out

Great photos of the merchandise. Strolling through the market is a great way to spend an afternoon.

Thank you Lady Jo and it's great to see how the oldies have found a new purpose for their talents.
They don't have to sit alone at home.
Blessings!

Very appealing! This is better than most Flea markets I have seen. Very artisenal!

Thank you, different in the sense that the market owners are giving old people a chance to earn an income my friend.
Glad that you found the post appealing.
Blessings!

Handcrafts have become a way to earn a little extra, it is good to see support from community members for those selling their craft work Stephen.

Oh yeah Lady Joan ans some of the old ladies in our church also became involved. It keeps the old people busy which is a great thing for their well being. A win-win situation all round with both financial and mental health benefits for the oldies and the buyers get something cheaper that they need or like.
Blessings!

I love those wood items! Absolutely love them. If I had the space.. and the time.. I'd put together my own woodshop and be happy in it all day long.

Thank you and maybe you should plan to get your own wood shop in the future my friend.Fresh cut wood have a lovely smell and there is so much that one can do with it. We also have a guy there at the market that makes models of old cart, tractors, trains and ships and his work is excellent.
Blessings!

Nice stuff on show here! I really liked the woodwork the best... the iron sculptures were also pretty cool, but we don't quite have the space to keep those!

What a lovely place to show off your talents of the pensioners! I am glad they have something like that to use their time doing something that they like. All that fun and a little pin money too.

Everything there is awesome! I cannot choose which piece I like best, the selection is so good. The little piggies are just a giggle to look at. There certainly is someone there with a sense of humor, yes?

I absolutely loved those toddler hats and I know around here where the weather is colder, these always sell wonderfully. Especially the animal ones! Aren't they sweet? The doggie water is everywhere here to keep the dogs hydrated. Washington DC is very much a dog-friendly town and good thing! There are lots of people with dogs.

I wonder what ink that artist is using that it can be ironed and washed. I would be interested in knowing when you go back. Thank you, always, my friend. It is always a pleasure to get a post from you, even if it takes me forever to get back sometimes. I try to run double duty on the current posts in between work, you know the story!

Have a wonderfully blessed day!!

#MarketFriday loves you!

May you have a blessed weekend my friend and I will try to remember to ask the guy what kind of ink he uses.
Could be some kind of permanent marker ink. Wonderful to stand and chat with the oldies as they all have great stories, but I tell you that I don't want to end up like that one day.
Full of pains and aches, or aches and pains behind a counter is not my idea of life. Books and a coffee house sound so much better.
Nevertheless, the cameradie between the stall owners is great to see and there is also much laughter which is good for them.
Blessings!

I think that perhaps the stalls is their coffeehouse in some ways. I prefer the coffeehouse and books and people part of myself. But, I would have to say that it is all in what one is accustomed to.

When you get right down to it, it is the camaraderie that pulls us to a place. Some of them would be like a fish out of water in a coffee shop, but, I am definitely with you on that one. That is not the way I want to live out my old life lamenting with each other what hurts today or how many medications I am on.

Sheesh! Getting old sounds fun, doesn't it? :)

Thanks for the words. They are indeed a soothing balm. Always. Have a most wonderful weekend ahead!

!tip

Hahaha, I love your take on it Lady Denise. Getting old is not for sissies as they say, especially with the new painful surprises that one experiences most days. The young carefree and reckless days certainly returns to haunt one with painful vengeance.
Just the other day the doctor told me that my spine was shot and when I all innocently asked why, he said it was caused by a bike prang that I had 30 years ago. So now I am so worried that all of my other exploits will turn up one of these new days Lol. I would be basically a walking corpse hahaha.

What I have heard from their talks, most of their discussions are about men. Harold did this, Gerald did that and I told Ronald this and that, if you know what I mean. So prepare yourself for old age by knowing that you are going to talk about us men "hahaga". Sorry, snorted here.
And I bet that you have many stories in stock for other old ears Lol.
Just in a bit of a joking mood today so bear with me.
Blessings, thank you and may your weekend be a great one!
