«-ENGAGEMENT

Pandemic

I've been observing with great concern and some sadness the poor amount of comments and the very little interaction between steemians since this last friday night throughout the steem blockchain.

And certainly this past saturday has been one of the worst in terms of interaction. So I had to ask myself. ¿What the heck is happening now?

¿WUSSUP MILKERS?

  • Would most of you have suddenly contracted the coronavirus or what?

Given the source...

  • Didn't you know these newfangled viruses are not made to last?

Yeah! look and click on the first picture above. And then you will know what true speculation really is. It doesn't pan out just on crypto markets, you know? And that's precisely what leads me to speculate a little more in this post. ¿02 02 2020? <--Aren't these figures enough reasons to speculate?

Yeah! let's speculate!!

What I suspect and I have a major hunch.
Is the fact that no one is commenting, MILKING and interacting on other people posts and great content. Simply because lately no one seems to be upvoting and rewarding their brilliant and thoughtful comments anymore.

So, why bother?

Or in other words: ¿Why waste gunpowder on vultures?
Because I also have a strong feeling that I know very well what is the virus that is now producing this pandemic of lack of engagement.

The 2e12 virus strain.

Code name n^2/(n+1). Yup, this strange convergent linear curve 'protein' inserted into the core genome of the major EIP virus inside its RNA and amino acid strings, has been clearly the culprit. Since the power & stamina of everyone votes went straight to the drain. As for the capability of grant significant monetary rewards means. The strength of our upvotes were instantly reduced to almost nothing.

And that is how a new disease arose.

Its name: "50/50 Curation"

Yep, suddenly everyone understood that apart of that weird n^2/(n+1) protein. Also was introduced and inserted inside the EIP RNA another unconventional and undesirable timely new aminoacid.

The reduction from 15 minutes to only 5 minutes to read and upvote a post to be able to earn a pinch of this brandnew 50% curation reward.

So, ¿What has everyone done so far?
Oh! ¡Elementary my dear Watson!

Everyone rushed to join those automated voting trails or create their own autovote trail selecting their own favorite authors in a desperate attempt to not miss a single bite of that 50% of the curation cake. Me included!!

Steem autovoting services like Steemauto, Steemvoter, Streemian, SteemFollower, steem-autovote-bot tool, steem-fossbot-voter, Steem-Upvote-Bot browser extension and many more which comes and go.

Automation has been the main game here for the last six months since the HF21/HF22.

Because, quite frankly... ¿How the hell one here can read entirely a post in just five minutes. And then upvote these posts manually and consciously after reading it with the hopes to earn a minimal pinch of the pie curation rewards? Here now the thing is: "Pay first and Consume later"

Therefore, with so many automations to make a dime. Who the heck is in real time really paying attention to comments, feedback, engagement & interaction which pays a flying shit. erm... I mean, a flying speck of dust!!

¿Can you see the true illness now?

The beauty here is that the curve has made comments pretty unprofitable in general, so those commenting aren't doing it for an upvote and the users voting up the comments aren't getting much curation out of it either.

Hence, whoever told you that they are here just by the community. That's just a big fat lie. Everyone knows that whoever is still active here will want earn something. ¡Something! E.v.e.r.y.o.n.e.!! ¡All the time!

But yeah. I've been digressing.

Everything I wanted to say in this post. Is that today is a very curious and mysterious date. "02 02 2020" A palindrome. A date of the year that looks clearly cabalistic. One of those curious dates that will not be repeated again in several years. I think it's yelling out loud I'm praying for a change.

Ha, and to think that this was going to be just my seventh and last post for The Milk Challenge and also my first entry for the "The Third Nonsense Writing Contest" of @rycharde. ¡Wadda strange things happen in Steem!

Cool post! I love your blog and your ideas! I gave you a follow looking forward to more of your works!!

automation was always the main game, most just didn't do it. I have automated to follow the engagement token votes to push them over the dust limits.

As for comments, there are still people commenting without getting paid, and I am glad that the "nice post" drivel doesn't appear, but that was done with HF20 and RCs for the most part. in time though, SMTs will take the focus in the same way there are plenty of people earning with tribe tokens now. Lots of people chose not to invest there either or focus their content there either.

At the end of the day, very few people are going to earn what they want, regardless of how much they actually earn. people earning 10 dollars a day were upset at those earning 100 during the great pump of 2018, and now people earning a dollar are upset because others earn 10. there is no such thing as fair so in my opinion, I play my own game and deliver the best I can as my own actions are all I can control - the rest is out of my reach.

I thought it was only one minute to read and vote (not five minutes.) Which of us is mistaken?

it is a five minute total, bu there is game in it based on when one votes and who votes after. if voting at:

1 minute 80% of curation is foregone
2 minutes 60%
3 minutes 40%
4 minutes 20%
after 5 and there is no penalty.

However, if voters come in earlier, they "undercut" the votes to come later and take the penalty, but can benefit if large voters come on top to support.

Yes. Ok. Thank you.

no problem.

I don't know how I got to this comment but that helped clarify the curation game in a nutshell.

Personally I'm not to bothered if a post is 5 mins in or 5 minutes before post payout. If I read it, like it I'll pop it with a patented Havey upvote (although there's nothing really patented about it, it's just an upvote 😜)

The comment is the main thing imo.

I guess I didn't realize it until a recent conversation on a liberal site I started engaging in months back but evidently there are times when one values what they have to say more than the money. When I started on that site it paid really well for comments. I was like dang I can make more for one comment here then I can writing post for a week. I guess that fella didn't like it much that opposing views on his liberal site were being rewarded so handsomely and that came to a halt. I didn't care though, I keep right on as I usually do because saying what I had to say was more important, besides he wins if I tuck tail and run as this could have only been something driven by him to shut me up.

Great write up!! Pretty funny. I agree the blockchain seems quiet this weekend, I felt compelled to write posts just to break the silence! You are on to something with lower engagement since the last HF but at at the same time it made the spam worthless, so maybe it nulls itself out? I didn't think I would like the new changes but I actually don't mind them that much.

If you ever figure out how to download food, let me in on that...

You make some great points here. It is to be expected though when the system can be gamed and shortcuts to getting more steem are available and one has the resource available to do it... Why not do it?

I disabled my auto voting on authors and just follow curation trails that I trust. Not really too bothered about curation rewards but if I can swing some 27k SP around on content that has been manually checked then it can help I guess.
