For the longest time now, tech enthusiasts have been trying to guess what Apple's "next big thing" could be. The last one was the Apple watch. And it literally shaped the smartwatch industry.
Sure, it hasn't become as common as the iPhone or the iPad but it is because of the nature of the product. Not everybody needs a smartwatch in the first place and that too to do stuff that you can simply do on your iPhone (for the large part).
Anyways, Apple's AR Glasses have been predicted to be the next cool product from Apple. And it seems like these predictions are going to be right. And that too, really soon.
Jon Prosser, a popular Apple leaker has revealed the details of this upcoming product. He has been amazingly accurate with his past leaks as he claims he has sources within Apple. So, what will the AR glasses bring us?
A New Way To See The World
The name of the product is going to be Apple Glasses. Right off the bat, it sounds like something Apple would do - communicate what this product is all about with just two words.
One of the most shocking details is that the price of the product will be $499 + the price of a prescription. Most people who are familiar with Apple's developments and history were absolutely sure that the price would be greater than $1000. But it seems Apple wants to make this product widely accessible.
Also, just like the first-generation Apple Watch, all data processing will happen on the iPhone which will be connected to the glasses at all times. Prosser even revealed that Apple wants to introduce Apple Glasses as a "one more thing" announcement. This is what they have been doing recently as a nod to the late co-founder Steve Jobs.
The announcement is most likely to happen in Q4 2020 - Q1 2021. However, Apple wants to do it in a grand fashion with media people present at the event. So, timelines may shift a bit if the pandemic doesn't subside by then.
Jon Prosser even has a video of a prototype but he couldn't share it for legal reasons. However, he described what he saw in the video. He saw that the glasses had a frame made of plastic (which could change in the future), there was a LiDar sensor on the right side of the glasses and are able to charge wirelessly. Also, both lenses will display information via a UI called Starboard. It's not clear what it will look like. However, it will be controlled with gestures.
