We spent a few hours at the new house today and ate our first meal there - frozen pizza. It was pretty good considering. We have a lot of work left to do to get the move complete and with a new work week starting, we will be again living the whenever we can life, including the rest of the packing, of which we have heaps left to do.
I know that it is all starting to get frustrating for my wife, as she has realized that nothing is going to match in the house for a very long time, and it is going to be dusty AF for a lot longer. We will be living there during the renovations, and that means that we will spend most of the next year covered in different grades and materials of dust at all times.
The dining room will serve as the temporary master bedroom, the future office as our daughter's room. Currently, there is nothing in the house, but with everything going to get renovated in some way, there is no point putting anything lasting in there, including the curtains. Since we are moving toward summer and what will be close to 24 hours of daylight, curtains are necessary. We have 100% blockout blinds now, and they save my eyes and sleeping patterns.
The future lounge is going to be our office and we will put table tops that we already have on moving boxes to create work spaces. It will also be the lounge and dining room I am guessing. While rundown, there is a lot of space in this place and I am glad that we have a chance to rejuvenate it and hopefully turn it into something we love.
We talked to the elderly neighbors today for the first time and they have lived there since the neighborhood was created, "original". When my wife said that we were going to be starting renovations, the man said that he would guess that it really needed it. the people we bought from lived there 20+ years and barely did anything to the property at all, and it is a bit of an eyesore.
The exterior will have to wait though, as we will do the interior first and then have to save some more money for the garden, so that might be a couple years away. We will at least cut out some of the plants that are growing rampant and try to keep it relatively neat in the meantime.
I am quite excited to get my hands dirty (not in the garden that much) and getting to work, but then, I am happy enough living with decor that doesn't match and a coat of dust on everything. At least for a short while - but this renovation is unlikely to be finished completely in the next 5 years, and I am not sure how long my enthusiasm will last. Challenges are good for quality of life though...
right?

Well I'm sure this project can get your minds off the stress coming from the media. Plus a new challenging project can bring out the liveliness in the family.
At the end it would be very rewarding for sure! <3 :)

Just remember that temporary, will do for now fixes, have a tendency to never really get fully fixed. I think you should think; do the drapes match the carpet, drapes are cheaper to replace than carpet. But most of all, I would go with what the wife wants in curtains, and floor covering.

Yeah, this is more from the decor side. Actually, it is very, very rare to have wall to wall carpets. The house has wooden floors which we will sand back and paint.

Frozen pizza? The way things are now I'd kill for one of them...We're on thin cabbage soup and old boot leather for fibre.
