Waiting on tender hooks

I have quite liked looking at different angles of the new house and I think that once moved in (Sunday) I will spend some time taking more detailed and well-thought shots and see what I can discover.

There are contractors here now and we are going through all of the changes we want and prioritizing according to our budget. It is unlikely we will be able to afford a significant portion of our list at this time, unless we run into a fair bit more money over the next 6 months to a year. Possible, but likely?

One of the things that it looks like we are going to have to cut is warming the attics for now, something I was really looking forward to having done as it helps with lowering energy consumption as well as gives us hidden closets, which makes the rest of the space a lot cleaner.

Now we are going to wait for the tenders for work to arrive and hopefully they are keen to get the business, considering the general conditions of the economy and thinking that it might be some time before consistent work returns. It is hard to say at this point though as they aren't necessarily feeling the effects of collapse this early on.

While money is always an issue, I am hoping that we will be able to find a way to get more done than they think we can on our budget, which will likely mean doing more work ourselves and employing friends who are willing to work more cheaply. There is also a website where you can post jobs and tradespeople can put in their offers. These people usually are one-man-bands and don't have the overheads a business has.

I think my wife is a little disappointed in what she has heard so far, but weirdly, I am still okay and feeling quite positive that things will come good - I have no idea why. Normally, I am the one that will take the negative position on this type of thing - it is strange - maybe my subconscious knows something I don't.

However things turn out in the short-term regarding the renovations, I am glad that we have taken on a project that has a long-term focus and I think that we will eventually have a place that we love, because we have grown into. We are making a home, not a house - and that takes time.

Oh yeah - hardly any snow all winter and now it starts to snow as Spring arrives.

Ah! At last, I saw a window of your house Lol.
I had my own renovations company years ago and was forced to close down because the building trade slumped at the time. The most important thing about renovations are the preparations, as some people start to paint old walls without washing them first.
Others would buy the cheapest materials and quote you for top grade ones.
Best for you would be yo find a qualified trade expert to keep an eye on things every now and then. Also don't rush and start with the most important things first, as you are right in saying that eventually all things will work out.
But I think that you know all of this.
Blessings to you guys and take care!
Zac

black and whites I need to take more.

We have at least currently, a project manager who is keeping an eye on various aspects and assembling people. It is pretty expensive though. When it comes to this kind of house, it has to be done right and with the right materials otherwise it will have issues down the track, especially if it doesn't breathe.

I think the latest economic crisis is going to put many small businesses under, my own included perhaps. It will be a bitter pill if it happens, as I felt I was just finding my feet. For these guys, I am hoping that they won't mind doing the work a little below normal price to keep themselves busy in the downturn.

It'll all work out - it always has.

Yep! You are right about the bad news. South Africa just received its first Junk Status from Moody's in history. Our ZAR Rand value has rocketed to R19+ to the Dollar and now also with the lockdown many little businesses are folding.

At the charity we are well trained in sacrifices as we have been doing it for so long and we will simply continue through this dark storm.
I feel for you though with the problems you are facing.
Do you have a plan B?

I will only see your answer tomorrow, please don't think me rude, but very late here now!
Blessings!
Zac

My sister in law runs a charity out of Kenya and they are really struggling at the moment as distribution is needed and it can't happen under these conditions. They had just invested a lot into machinery to increase output to meet demand, and now they are pretty screwed if this doesn't end soon. It is a shame if they must wind it up, as they help many.

Do you have a plan B?

Wait longer :)

Oh yeah, we are all locked in and it creates sleepless nights worrying about the plight of the poor, as they have to suffer terribly at these times. Last that I heard, many little charities are in the process of closing down over here.

But then again, even in the "good" times we have seen many of them come with their names up in lights, only to fizzle out and go when the hard work starts.
Sorry for your sister in laws plight.

Waiting longer is always a good answer my friend.
