If I can give ye some feedback.
Thinking outside of the box, cause I am claustrophobic.
Of the six who joined How many do you think will remain?
The six who did join will be known to key people like yourself with the resource to make it worth their while. the 20+ people I encouraged to join I do not have the resources to reward their content. If their post is not seen by whom ever their post will not do well for rewards. The same reason why so many left the platform until things gain some value.
Couple with this the Thank you for joining we will assist you grow is not there.
I personally have took an alternative route to on-boarding. Twitter Facebook and whatever other social thing are only goof to gain visibility of the name Steemit.
Until we have a system that encourages people to stay once here, people will not remain. User base is not what is needed, active membership is.
Maybe I just talk to all the wrong people, the vibe I get back from them is generally negative about the way Steemit works. I agree with it, Steemit stinks of collusion at the top.
So what have I tried, For on-boarding.
I have encouraged 20+ accounts to enrol in Steemit. Not mentioning the Steem blockchain. I have also had conversations with a local shop owner who is showing interest in joining on a trail basis. While he will not accept Steem as a payment system as he does not fully understand the systems. He is willing to use it in the shop for other purposes, (purchase of raffle tickets or items which are not shop stock.)
It will also put advertisement in the Shop for a whole community to see. Of the local 15,000 people in Ballyfermot Dublin, this shop will cater to approx 2,000 plus on a regular basis. There is also passing trade from those who travel to work in the area.
I have expressed this opinion many times and those who hold the power to make this happen do not want to hear.
This on-boarding has been tried by doing other things pumping the Steem name on Twitter Facebook and it seems to have no positive long term effects. Yet this is what keeps being done to get more people here. 200 people who will make use of the platform cause they can see the physical world benefit is better than 10.000 who will not remain.
If Steem was a meadow of flowers. We have everyone here trying to pick a flower and bring it home cause they say they love flowers. In truth if the flowers are loved, they would be watered not picked.
Maybe it is time to think differently instead of the same box being opened time and time again.
We keep talking about your local shop and some how my addled brain never really got a handle on it, but bizarrely it clicked a little from this comment. Here is an idea - how about I send you 20 x 250g bags of Steem branded ground coffee for you to give to the shop owner to sell in his shop - if he sells any he can keep some of the earnings as commission and power up the rest to a Steem account we could create for his store? Will catch you in DM to work out more details.

I love your analogy. Make Steemit a desireable meadow and the right users will make this their home. Meadows exist in an ecosystem so there needs to be a good discussion of what virtual ecosystem Steem is part of and how can we complete and/or reinforce that virtual ecosystem.

Already thought through that and it comes down to ability to use in various ways. I have Idea's on how it can be used for purchases from big companies like Amazon too.
Look at my Steem power and my lack of things I have done that are of great magnitude, Those at the top only want to listen to me when they can take what I say to use for their own profit.
We are only i this situation because of what they would not begin two years ago and still refuse to do. They only see big business coming to the platform as a solution. You have to wonder why? when it grew previous without.
Look to the real world and there is always a story behind the story. The same applies here, the true story is not being told, but hidden behind closed doors for those at the top.
