Food Sharing #160 - Coffee Gallery @ Kawagoe, Japan

Hi Everyone,

Apart from Starbucks Reserve Roastery, we found this really cute cafe while we were in Kawagoe, 60 minutes away from Tokyo. We walked a lot so mum wanted to get some rest so we found this place which sells just coffee. Apart from coffee, the shop owner will also sell you the beans for those who want to make them at home. We saw the price outside, either 380yen or 430 yen which was simple enough for us who knows limited Japanese.

The menu was limited so don’t expect a full-blown menu. He recommended 4 types for us to choose from and we chose Brazil and Colombia beans. I actually asked if they serve tea as I don’t drink coffee but unfortunately they don’t. I then have to choose if I want it hot or cold (cold drip). We opt for hot was it was pretty cold outside.

Not kidding but this guy took at least 10 minutes to make our two coffee. He slowly boiled the water, then did a ‘sample’ batch and tasted it himself. He then nodded and continued making the next batch for us. Once that is done, he would carefully wipe the cups just in case any was dropped while he was pouring the coffee. I could feel he was really passionate about making coffee, the way he tried it and the way he wants to make every perfect.

It was a really nice experience and even a non-coffee drinker like me actually had the whole thing. I didn’t want to disappoint him but also it wasn’t bad at all. The cafe had nice relaxing music so we sat around for 30 minutes and then off we go continue to explore the town.
