Hello,
a flower photo, out of my house..
The grass is always greener as they say but of course by now, we are old enough to know better, wise enough to know that it is rarely true, smart enough to look, take stock and evaluate before we jump down from the fence. Meh, I don't think so. I think we suffer it every time, ,,,
''no matter how many times it has been proven false. ..
"""We always think that someone else has it better than us and we always think that our situation is worse than it is.
'' It sets us up for issues. When we look at the position of another person, ,,
''our evaluation is based on who we are and our own experiences meaning,,,
'' it is biased and flawed and not a very good indicator of reality. ..
''At least for the majority of us. We over-weigh some points that are irrelevant and short-change others that are vital,,,,
''' focus on the supporting evidence, ignore what contradicts our view. ..
''We are terrible at judging when we want a particular outcome..When we look at a group of people however we start to attribute group traits to every individual within, we evaluate based on narrow evidence and information and apply to all we decide is contained within the group ideal. We make some very big assumptions and jump to large conclusions in order to do this and this act is an act of oppression of the individual as you no longer see each person, only the umbrella you have placed them under. What is interesting is then when the group is that of a nation united under a flag as the bias changes again where the group one identifies with is over-weighted to the positive and all other groups are below, no matter the evidence presented. A country can be getting torn apart at the seams by war, corruption, poverty, poor education and health issues but, inhabitants say, 'It is my country, I love it'. You'd think if they loved it, they would take better care of the people that create it, no?
Everyone and everything has its strengths and weaknesses but we seem to not be great judges of what individual traits add to a group to make a group strong because if we did, we would likely be developing cultures that bend toward their development. Yet, we seem to be going in the opposite direction, one of individual needs over that of a the group even if that process leads to higher risks and lower capacity to fulfill needs for every individual. The development of the individual does not stop the individual from being part of the development of a community also..
