[Call For Feedback] - COMMUNITIES ON STEEMPEAK

in hive-175001 •  5 years ago  (edited)

I'll let you in on some lesser known intel
https://beta.steempeak.com/

@steempeak would love to have you post your thoughts about the community layout
We've created this temporary website so that you can test it out and give us feedback.

WHERE TO GIVE FEEDBACK?

EXPECT CHANGES

The data/API that is used to organize communities on steem is on a temporary API being created by @roadscape and there is plenty that can still change... good news is that many changes are likely to be new cool features.

small thingy:
enable portfolio doesn't work, respond: 'the signing url is invalid' (steemconnect)

Besides this all looks good. I am just a bit confused about which posts show up in Blog and which in Discussion.
Am I right that if I post in a community it doesn't show up in my Blog?

You are correct any community post does not show up in your blog. You'd have to resteem it then it would.

but it would show up on other interfaces (steemit, old steempeak) in my feed, without first resteeming it, yes?

Yes those sites like old steemit and old steempeak do not have communities so basically they don't correctly categorize the content.

Thanks, fixing this now ;)

Loving the look, love how easy it is to find and navigate.

Trying to change the settings (cover image), but it's asking for active key. I'm logged into keychain and the active and posting keys are both loaded. I can upload the images okay, but not clear what to do from there. The 'continue' button stays muted and I can't progress. I'm logged in with the owner account - @hive-120078. What am I missing?

We have changed this display based on this feedback to make it more understandable btw

But in your screenshot there is no LINK in the cover photo area... there has to be a link there. If you uploaded and there is still no link then it's a bug on our side cc @asgarth

Shame on me I haven't actually tested it.

UPDATE: I'm pretty sure you reported a bug so I made a ticket to fix this. Thanks for the feedback.

No worries .. appreciate how fast and attentively you guys sort out issues. Glad I could help.

@asgarth, tried to change the images for the community page for @naturalmedicine and it did appear to be fixed - waited for a few hours but still the images haven't loaded. Tried twice.

the URL is listed in the settings?
Can you share a screenshot?

@riverflow pinging you on discord.

Love the new look, just a couple of quick requests:

  • under my feeds, could you put my communities showing posts from communities I am subscribed to
  • Under communities could you sort by name the different groups making it easier to scroll to find a community ie. under my community sort by name
  1. we already have this selection... is that what you need?
    image.png

  2. No presently the API from steemit doesn't have that ability ... we want it as bad as you do as well. But I'm sure it will happen sooner than later.

  1. Thanks, I missed it on main page and was looking under explore - my feeds.
  2. Thanks, we wait....

Thanks for the responses, great to see the work you are doing on steempeak.com.

Now I have an interesting problem for you. I see a different webpage in Brave on my Ubuntu 18.04 computer than my windows computer with Brave.
I have noticed that when I ping from Ubuntu it appears to use an IP6 address and I have not tried to turn off IP6 on the computer.
Screenshot from 20200204 003512.png

Does this mean IP6 is being used from my Linux computer to your web server or is my router doing something strange. I will do more testing tomorrow and see what I can find, looking forward to any thoughts you might have....

@mytechtrail I'm on linux too and working well for me. Let me know if you find the issue ;)

Turned off IPv6 and still do not see feed tab in upper left ?? Brave on Ubuntu 18.04
Screenshot from 2020-02-04 14-38-18.png

I think that's a bug I've noticed and forgot to have @asgarth fix
It happens as you expand and shrink the window... so if the window is not big enough it removes FEEDS.

No, this is not a bug. Just the browser window is too small and I have to make room on the top bar. You can still access the feed from the Explore page.

Thank you gentlemen, I was not using the browser in full screen and when I expanded it the feeds tab showed up. I was sure I checked the explore tab and feeds and it was not there a couple of days ago, but now it is as well lots of options. Any reason there is so much space between search box and edit button?

Yep, added the link in the Explore page just recently.

No specific reason for the space, it's just the layout we have from the beginning and not updated it yet

@mytechtrail If you want to see it without the browser window maximized you can use Ctrl - to Zoom out.

I have to do it for some webpages to see all features.

Also as a side note Ctrl + Zooms in.

  • I am getting a bit confused with Blog - Discussion. Maybe Discussion should be called Activities? For sure, this is more of a personal opinion; I guess you might have discussed it enough ;)

  • The vote count differs between beta.steempeak and the 'old' steempeak. Also on older posts...

old steempeak:
voteOld.png

beta.steempeak:
voteNew.png

What's the link to the post that will help cc @asgarth

It is differeing on all my recent posts; beta.steempeak shows 3-6 votes less.

e.g.
https://steempeak.com/peoplephotography/@captainklaus/posture
vs.
https://beta.steempeak.com/peoplephotography/@captainklaus/posture

cc @asgarth

There also seem to be quite some delays in showing votes; on beta.steempeak in activities I can see that I received 2 upvotes on a comment 3h ago. If I look at the comment, it shows 0 votes.
Both votes might be dust votes, so maybe that's why?

https://beta.steempeak.com/@captainklaus/re-berniesanders-q5cdye

Yes, I have noticed the same behavior a few times. I think dust votes are not included in the post details when using the new API to save some bandwidth.

OMG, no more REP!
Courageous move, tough change for a rep-lover like me, bold from you. Again I am impressed.

How does @steempeak feel about the recent changes in ownership? Hope it has no impact whatsoever on your developement!

Actually I dont know what you're talking about for rep.

Reputation is not displayed anymore next to the usernames.

I see them. You'll have to give an example. There's no where i have noticed them missing.

In the feed it used to be next to the usernames, now not anymore, and I find it good, but it took me a moment or two to get used to it.

rep.png

Which feed... there are lots of "feeds"

  • Topic feed
  • Following feed
  • List feed
  • Badge feed
  • Tribe feed
  • Community feeds
  • Community subscription feeds

Hahaha
But if you give me a link i'll go look at it.

Hmmm you're right i didn't even notice they're gone on feeds because I was looking right here on the comments
image.png

I wonder if that's something we're testing on beta... or maybe it's coming from Steemit inc API

@asgarth may know

small bug on the explore page (https://beta.steempeak.com/explore): The link to proposals is wrong, it goes to the witness page

Thanks for the heads up cc @asgarth

Yep, already fixed. Thanks ;)

Cross Posting is an amazing feature!

Maybe one could expand the possibility to comment to more then a short message? As it is, it is hard to notice, and not visible once you view the post.

[Edit] I realised that I can write on top of the post if I edit it after cross posting.

crosspost.png

Community cross posting is something we are testing out as of today/yesterday.

Also if you're cross posting someone else's post to a community how much do you want to write?
We feel it's basically a way for you to explain why you're sharing a post in that community and maybe direct conversation about that post you're sharing.

A few lines are fine, maybe add a tag or two.

A tag? A tag is you putting it into a TOPIC page... cross posting is for you to put it into a community. This is community-crossposting.

Communities will state if they allow crosspostings and under what conditions ... then you have permission to share that post there... or i guess risk having it muted (or you being muted)
Topics are a different area of steem and they aren't moderated and you'd probably want total steem community consensus if you're trying to say that we should have the ability to reshare someone else's post to new topic pages. Aka "I want to see this post shared in additional topic pages than what the original author chose."

But on communities they can say yes that is allowed here or not.
They could even say Yes but only if rewards are declined.

As for the few lines of community introduction thing by the cross-poster. We're probably willing to go beyond the 100 character thing but we need to see what are the use cases and do people want something. Right now the design is really helpful to stick to one line.

I also realised that I can edit it after cross posting. When editing I can put things visible in the preview (when using >advanced > Post Description) or on top of the post (when typing in the 'blog'). There it seems I can also add tags....

Tried it out here: https://beta.steempeak.com/@captainklaus/posts for the last two cross posts.

Yeah you're at your own risk there ... there is of course room for abuse of this feature as you have found. We can't prevent people from abusing it to be honest because they could literally use any interface to make an edit of the post. However we can help communities identify potential abuse. And if people see something cross-posted in their TOPIC-FEED then i assume they'll find it weird (or they won't) i guess you could test it.

@SteemPeak & @asgarth I tested the cross-posting feature and like it.

A feature suggestion would be to add a character counter and/or character limiter for the 'Message' section of the cross-post so that it will make counting the 100 character maximum easier and/or just limiting the input field to 100 characters.

@SteemPeak & @asgarth Another nice feature request would be able to hide a cross-posted post from my feed and followers. Like the one from the 'Advanced' section of the post editor shown in the picture below.

hidden.png

P.S. I just noticed that maybe 'follower' in the image should be 'followers.'

Yes it should be "followers"
