YOUTH DAY CELEBRATIONS : 08/09/2021

Good morning everyone,

Yesterday, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) youths joined the world to celebrate the international youth day on theme “ transforming food systems :Youth Innovation For Human and Planetary Health”. It was a great day to share ideas to benefit the youth in the areas , as the youth leaders we have advocated for total involvement in the programs that matter to the youth, youth should be directly involved in decision making incase of anything concerning them.

The youth day is dedicated to the role young women and men play in bringing change in tackling global issues and achieving sustainable development. It also serves as an opportunity to raise awareness of challenges and problems facing the world’s youth.

The issues and priorities highlighted by the young participants included the impact of the covid 19 pandemic, related to its effects on human health ,environment and food system. Young participants stressed the importance of working towards more equitable food systems. They also highlighted the need for the youth to make informed decisions on food choices through increasing the global education on the most sustainable options for both individuals and environment .

Through youth education , engagement , innovation and entrepreneurial solutions , this year’s international youth day aims to provide a platform for the young people to continue the momentum from the EYF in the lead up to the high level food systems summit .
This year, international youth day will be virtually convened be DESA in partnership with the food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the Major Group for Children and Youth.
