Hello Steemians!
Hope you are all doing well. It has been a busy fortnight so this is my first time posting on the new Team Uganda page.
Anyways, today I would like to share about my first day at internship. In a one word summary, interesting. My morning started at 5 am. I know, too early. But because of the distance between home and where I have my internship is quite wide, I have to get up earlier to beat the traffic. I had an early breakfast and thereafter rushed out of my home to grab a boda to the taxi stage. I made it into the office at 8:30 am and proceeded to type up a chapter for my dissertation. The partners at the law firm arrived shortly before 9 am, and then we got started on the real work.
So I thought that if I could survive law school for four years, then I can manage the real life work force. Man was I wrong! As my supervisor gave me an assignment (I think he wanted to gauge how much I really knew), I stared a little bit at the documents placed I front of me...maybe about ten minutes before I got started. I realized that I would have a bit of trouble later if I did not get started on the work.
I am short sighted and so wearing glasses has become a second nature of sorts. Even that could not stop me from seeing the words as though they were jumbled up😲. But at the end of it, with the help of my friends, I was able to complete the assignment...and got a really throbbing headache that I still have today. Oh well, tomorrow's 3rd June, a National Public holiday. Now I get why people having stable jobs get excited over a public holiday such as this one (don't deny it, you get happy when a public holiday is thrown into the middle of the week😂).
Yesterday, I also went to see a special friend too, during my lunch break that is. He unfortunately caught Covid in the line of duty, but is now getting better. I took all the necessary precautions, like wearing a face mask, carrying my sanitizer and social distancing. I took him something that hopefully will help him get better. We have been so lax as to doing all these things because we didn't see people get affected by this disease, but after my visit, despite always maintaining SOPs, my eyes were opened to reality. Covid is real, and it is in Uganda, and even though a person was vaccinated, he can still get infected. We have to do our best to maintain our health so that we don't catch the virus😥.
Afterwards, I returned to work and completed a few other assignments. The law firm stops work at 4pm, so I had an early start in heading back home. There was hardly any traffic, so I made it back earlier than expected, carried out steaming (which we always do when we get out of the house) and took some tea before settling in for the evening.
I was too tired to finish typing up that chapter of the dissertation, so it looks like the work will have to be done on another day.
As this period of internship progresses, I hope to see a change in the work I do. They say that the first step of taking on a challenge is acceptance, accepting that you probably don't know as much as you think you do. It is then that one's mind is open to learning and change.
Thank you guys for reading. I'll post again soon. Enjoy the rest of your week. Ciao!
Hullo @gladys-nanyanga,so glad you are back to steeming.
I have a good no of friends in the law firm but their work loads never get easier but instead get harder each day,so i know its a big tasks you got ahead of you but you will win.
Thats true 100%,accepting that you dont know creates way more opportunities for you to learn.
I wish you the very best in your internship dear
