Growing up, I enjoyed experimenting with clothe cut-outs to create unique styles for my dolls. I Never had any skill to create these looks but somehow I did what seemed to look great on the dolls. My creativity showcased itself at the age of 6 years.
Much later in life, I decided to pursue a career in Fashion and Design. It was really hectic balancing work with a highly demanding course. During my study of Fashion and design, i developed a real passion for working with different textures and materials and creating new designs with inspirations. I made up my mind and considered making a career out of my creative skills.
I am a vivid observer of trends and their interpretations in different countries.I have been found working backstage on several productions like for the Italian revolutionary show and the French fashion week 2019 in Uganda.
Participating in the making of the shows brought a new experience to my career. During the shows, I assisted with dressing the models in there costumes, setting hair & make up. I developed the skill of an effective team player, as I worked closely with both the backstage crew and performers. Tell you what?! A successful project completed as part of a team always feels more rewarding than one completed on your own.
As part of my journey, I also really enjoy practicing sewing in my spare time. I get to study various fashion and textiles books, ranging from fashion drawing to sewing techniques.
During fashion school I worked on three personal projects. I was required to come up with designs that had sources of inspiration;
A professional picture of me.
My first project was inspired by a jellyfish. This allowed me to freely express myself as sophisticated and simple. My color palette was inspired by blue which represents the aquatic life. I was required to come up with a mood board. A mood board in fashion comprises of the colors, and all the sources of inspiration to come up with a design.

My second project was inspired by the karamajong culture to create a Halloween costume. I decided to work with the whole beauty of the karamajong culture to create a bold and colored modernized Halloween costume. The Karamajong tribe is found in Northern Uganda. They have their traditional fabric known as the leesu which is accessorized with numerous beads in the neck and on their hands. They are also known as cattle keepers as there way for economic survival. My color pallet was red and white; It was inspired by blood and milk as this is the food the karamajong usually eat.

My third project was to create an outfit inspired by recyclable material. This project was so interesting given the fact that it gave me an opportunity to look around things around me, things I usually see around home. So I decided to work with a tube of a tyre to create my outfit. I accessorized my outfit with dog chains, a fan and I also revamped the tube with black oil paint.

Iam really passionate about fashion and design. I’m living my dream😊. I hope this inspires you to chase yours too.

Hi @jemimahkamiti,
I like your passion for fashion and design. This is very incredible work. I am glad to have you as my designer. I like the creativity put in making that fashion wear out of a car tire. "recyclable material." Can't that be so heavy on someone?

@yohan2on..Thank you for appreciating my article!! Uhhm maybe to clarify on something; the project on recyclable material. I used the tube of the tyre. The tube is found in the inside of the tyre, it’s usually smooth, light and too flexible. So these characteristics of the tube made my work too simple thus releasing high levels of creativity. Thank you for following 🙏
