PORRIDGE!!

Porridge is such a lovely food. We are normally told that we do not drink porridge rather we eat it. Porridge is of different types; there’s millet porridge made using millet flour which is normally brown in color, there is porridge made from maize flour which is normally white in color, there is also soya porridge made from soya beans powder and this tends to be in the cream white color. Others include rice porridge from rice porridge flour and matooke porridge.

Porridge is made by normally boiling hot water, making a mixture of the flour you want to use with a small amount of water and mix it well in the saucepan then you pour in the hot water and you seat it on the fire while stirring then thereafter you can add milk if you prefer with the sugar or whichever sweetener you prefer. Some people like me love to add margarine to seal the flavor and taste.

Porridge has great benefits. It is a great source of protein and millet porridge is good as it increases iron intake especially for the ladies. Porridge is also healthy as a breakfast meal because it fills up one in that they may not have to eat in between meals as they can just wait till the next meal comfortably. Porridge especially millet porridge with lots of milk is good for breastfeeding mothers because it helps them produce more breast milk to feed their babies.

Porridge also provides a great intake for carbohydrates therefore it is really useful for people who do heavy work like construction, body building etc. Porridge also provides other minerals like magnesium and potassium. It is also great for children as it is good with carbohydrates and proteins therefore it builds their bodies and helps them grow. It is also great for fiber intake.
