As I survey the political scene, our government and to some extent our society I am concerned by what I see as a growing lack of civility, the loss of our ability to engage in civil discourse and resistance to compromise.
The rise incivility and our current of state where we can’t seem to discus our differing points of view in a civil manner is in my opinion an evolving situation, which started years ago and is only getting worse. One of the founding principles of American Politics, Civil Discourse, as in normal vocal volume, no yelling or name calling, just articulation of facts and personal plans to improve problems and situations. I feel we are not practicing this policy and our incivility towards each other is counterproductive.
I see the loss of our ability to engage in civil discourse as a problem for all sides of any political, financial or religious debate, for these problems are not flat like pieces of paper, they are three dimensional and it is difficult to see them from all existing sides or points of view. It is only by listening to others with a different point of view can many times truly see the problem in its entirety. Lacking this complete view we find ourselves struggling to solve problems with only partial information.
Lastly, I have seen the rise of intransigence and refusal to compromise lead to failure to effectively govern. I ask everyone to recognize that the larger a country is, the more diverse its needs and different the varying points of view. The governance of such a country to be effective and do the greatest good for its citizens must invariably involve compromise between divergent or simply different points of view.
In my mind, opposing sides meet, share facts and information, discus their interpretations of the facts and their proposed solutions and we vote on proposals which contain some of the wisdom and ideas from both sides. We create a plan for implementation, agree to support it and then move on to the next problem. It’s called governance and other then laws regarding core human rights, voting rights, religious rights, rights over our bodies, rights over our property and rights granted us by the bill of rights, I think most others are worthy of discussion and change as society changes.
I hope that we can regain these abilities and then keep our great country on the path to a better tomorrow.

A real problem in society, it’s good to start talking about it.

Your really going out on a limb here posting about civility in these uncivil times. But ironically perhaps this is what is needed.
Cheers 🥂
