The reason why governments are keen on the supply and demand of masks for the prevention of the novel coronavirus (Corona 19) is that supply is not easy to keep up with the rapidly increasing demand.
The main cause is the rapid increase in demand, but the characteristic of the mask, which must be used frequently, is also a factor because it must be worn once and discarded.
Researchers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Brigham Women's Hospital in the U.S. have developed a N95-standard quarantine mask that can be recycled made of durable silicone material, according to the medical media Cytech Daily on the 13th (local time).
Brigham Women's Hospital is the second largest hospital among educational hospitals affiliated with Harvard Medical School in the United States.
Giovanni Traverso, an assistant professor of mechanical engineering at MIT, who specializes in gastroenterology at Brigham Women's Hospital, said, “The biggest advantage of this mask is the injection molding method, which is widely used in industrial sites around the world as the most widely used method of processing thermoplastics.
The researchers who developed this mask explained that it is possible to easily produce it without mobilizing special equipment.
The researchers plan to develop a second product by reflecting the consumer's evaluation of the prototype.
In addition, while requesting approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Institute for Industrial Safety and Health (NIOSH) under the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it plans to establish a company for mass production.
