Considerations on the current economic model for Musaceae production

In the current economic model, focusing on agricultural work in the countryside, banana production is a profitable activity that provides the country's cities with bananas for their consumption, which is why, despite being a highly demanded product, production is quite difficult, since in the heavy rainy season there are usually large economic losses.

Generally, the economic losses faced by musaceae producers are due to the fact that the roots of this plant are very weak and cannot withstand the conditions of stagnant water, and in times of strong summers the plant suffers serious problems causing it to die many times due to lack of water, but in spite of the strong circumstances, producers define contingency plans which ensure that their plantations will be able to survive.

Continuing with the topic in context, banana production generates a series of costs, which can be called investment costs, in the production units, among which we can highlight the purchase of inputs, insecticides, payment of workers, truck loads, among others. In addition, climatic factors and diseases increase investment costs.

Closing of the theme

It should be noted that when it comes to the sale of this highly demanded product, it is here where the questions and calculations are made by the producers, which leads to the conclusion that the price established by the entity in charge of setting the sale price is not enough in some occasions to cover the investment made.

hello @alaiza,
One of the things that affects farmers the most is the unfavourable position they have in the sales chain. I say this because in Venezuela banana producers invest a lot of money to be able to grow their crops and when they sell their products it is the middlemen who really make the money, this system of trade makes the farmers bear all the risks and the middlemen are the ones who make most of the money at the time of sale and this reality is more marked in socialist countries, I believe that if farmers use the tools provided by technologies such as networks and free trade is established, producers can have a better remuneration for their crops.

Greetings @alaiza, this product is undoubtedly an important part of our nutrition, but like others, the valuation of the product for the product often does not compensate the investment to be made, much less overcome economic losses caused by rainfall and other natural elements, so it really needs better financial schemes that allow the producer to be profitable and sustainable.

Hi @emiliomoron, in Venezuela both the banana and the cambur are an important source of nutrients in the diet of people, therefore, the success of this crop represents a valuable percentage in the diet of Venezuelans. Thank you for commenting.

Greetings @alaiza as you well express in your writing any production system that bets to cultivate some item needs to invest in different aspects, among which are the areas of transportation, inputs, labor, among others, so the product if you want does not compensate the initial investment hence the need to make a good financial outline that allows us to evaluate the profitability of our production system. Thank you for such a valuable contribution

Hi @madridbg, the management tasks in any crop, added to the investment plan guarantee that financially the crop is profitable, it should be noted that contingencies must be mapped out to be able to act in natural situations that affect production. Thank you for commenting.

Sometimes to avoid it from falling we sometimes use long stick to support it. Apart from the first year banana farming is a lucrative business because once you start all the have to be doing it to be clearing it and maintaining it nothing more.

Hi @jennyvic09 , I have read about some techniques including the tutoring you mention, so the museasea category is very lucrative. Thanks for commenting.

Greetings @ alaiza . The innumerable difficulties that producers are going through today in Venezuela, make them look for other alternative crops that generate less expenses, even though the profitability is in a longer time.
On the other hand, the production of cambur as they are also known is very profitable, there are very privileged areas where the waters do not do as much damage as others and crops are very successful, everything will depend on the geographical location of the production unit.
Thank you very much for sharing your publication

Hi @dgalan, it is true what you mention location, the success of a given crop will depend on its geographical location, and of course of a proper technical management that guarantees optimal values in production. Thanks for commenting.

This post complements mine, and "vice versa", hahahaha! as the topics are about the same thing. I invite you to stop by my Blog and take a look at it:

Banana production is indeed profitable, but hard to take care of until they are exported to the cities or outside since some circumstances might lead to huge losses. Here in my country, there is only one area where they plant bananas (near the dead sea) in-country since most of the other parts are deserts so it's not easy for anything to live in the desert. The area where the bananas are planted is hot but has enough water sources which can be controlled and not cause any loss to the farmers.
