Take time to oversee your small business.

It’s been a while in this great community, and once again I am excited to share my knowledge with the beautiful people here. I went to visit a friend over the weekend who started a small business three months ago and she decided to hand over the business to someone she thought she could trust while she ran back to school to complete her education, she came back home after three months to find her business that she had invested a lot of time and energy in, almost empty and there was no accountable way to explain the disappearance of goods or money.

This made me realize the need to create time to study/oversee a business especially when it is a small one, it is usually difficult to control it from a distance. Understandably, there are periods when we need to get a helping hand to assist us in running the affairs of the business, but even while we employ someone to assist, it is our own duty to ensure that we properly monitor every activity going on around it.

Important reasons to monitor a small business.

• The case of theft: In order to avoid what happened to my friend, who started her business with about a million Naira and when she got back, everything in her store was less than 500,000 Naira, I understand the possibility of retrieving her money by going through the law, which might even take a long process to recover, to avoid scenarios like that completely, it is just better to monitor the business, have a routine to check the business, either it is on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, regardless of how busy you are, make it an additional work to check through and monitor the business.

• The purpose of improvement: Handling a business helps you become smarter as you pick one or two lessons every day, an activity like a business, is an enlightening activity and definitely a brain boost to anyone who is concentrated.

• Healthy relationship development: In a bid to sustain your business and make sure it is relevant, you will do all you can to ensure that uphold a strong business relationship with your employees as well as your customers, this develops your interaction with others and bearing this in mind, it becomes possible for you to build a greater level of relationship with not just your customers but with everyone you come in contact with.

• Understanding the business: Realizing the areas of flaws in the business and the possibility of growth and development, lies in your ability to stay around the business region and observe it. This will help you realize where adjustment needs to be made as long as the business is concerned.

It is possible to employ people and have a successful business, but as a business owner, create time to observe and monitor things around especially as a small business owner in order to avoid complete destruction of the business.
