The names of the cryptocurrencies are a little bigger. Like stocks listed on a stock exchange, cryptocurrencies are shortlisted shortened on the exchange. These shortened names or terms are called 'tickers'. For example, Bitcoin's BTC and Ethereum's ETH. MATIC has been renamed Polygon but Ticker is still MATIC. Because ticker change is a hassle. Marketing is affected by this.
But have you noticed on the Coinmarketcap site that there are many cryptos in the same ticker? Search by typing META and see how many cryptos come up. If a ticker is the unique identity of a crypto, how can the same ticker have more than one crypto?
Usually small and irresponsible crypto projects accept / copy the ticker of another existing crypto. Those who run the project so generously, would it be right to invest in their project? So before investing in any new crypto, do a little search on Coinmarketcap!
Hi @boss75
I see that this can be quite confusing and one has to be extra careful while looking at the ticker symbols.
I wish that there is some regulation for this .
However it is like the wild west right now

Hello @boss75
Well, knowing about the Tikers is important, but I think that, even though the title itself says that they are "short notes" it would be much better to make a post that has more explanatory content, as surely many are left with the curiosity to know more.
A very interesting note, it had not occurred to me that this could be part of a scheme to defraud users using the sustainability of another currency, but it makes sense, as it is a subliminal way to deceive and it seems to have worked for many.
I seen your post and this is a question of confusion. Some time the unique name become more that one and this is the question of confusion. But anytime this is necessary to see the information in coin market cap. Thank you so much for sharing this valuable post with us.
