John Sculley was a renowned marketer at PepsiCo who was doing really well at the time he held the position as the company’s marketer, Steve jobs company apple was four years old and he knew that bringing someone like John Sculley into the vision of his company is going to help his company a lot and he tried to convince Sculley to join him, Sculley was reluctant about leaving his well-paying job for a company that just started four years ago and it even started in a garage but Steve got to win him over and he followed Steve to apple with the vision and the mission of changing the world.

The apple brand has various sectors that they were working on and it looked like building a company in another company, they both worked as a team and John Sculley took the position of the CEO of the company, until a misunderstanding occurred between the duo, there was a difference in the organizational approach of the both parties and Steve Jobs was stripped of his position in the company and sent away from his own company. In the year 1997 however, Steve returned back to apple.

The surprising thing now is that John Sculley who is in his 70’s is creating his own mobile phone company, this mobile device is a low cost phone unlike apple, John Sculley seem to have studied the economy and he is trying to make a phone that will become acceptable by the young ones and also affordable at the same time. Affordability and class is one way John Sculley hopes to hit the market for his privately owned company.

According to John Sculley, he is creating a company that will be able to compete with the upcoming market, he knows that there are upcoming youths who will like to experience what the luxury phones are offering but may not have the financial capacity to do that. John believes that the only successful high classed phone in the market right now is apple and with his mobile phone called OBI, he will be moving into the fast growing economies in the world. He is also really focused on his customers and not his competitors, until the time of this writing I never knew he was also kicked out of the company as well just the same way his late friend Steve jobs was kicked out and I tried to make research on the reason why he was kicked out of the company but I could not find anything related to it.

What do you think about the new phone product by John Sculley, do you think it is going to be great or acceptable by the market, is it going to be a good fit for the already existing competition and are you going to get one yourself?

Hi @futurekr

What impresses me is that at 70 years old he is creating a company, it means that he is someone with a lot of vitality, and also getting into the technological area with all the progress he is having this year, wow, something good must come. He must have a different conception of everything.

Most average people of that age will only thing about retirement so I also consider it a brave move.

Let me explain to you, friend, what happened to Jhon is that he was a great businessman, a great salesperson when he held the position of CEO at Apple Steve Jobs dedicated himself to the development of technology, which Jhon was bothered by, he did not understand why a company should invest millions of dollars in developing technology,So through dirty maneuvers, he took Steve out of his own company and dedicated himself to commercializing the products they already had, the company earned millions but lost that capacity for innovation, after several years they fired Jhon because Microsoft dominated the market and Apple was at the brink of bankruptcy, so they brought steve back and he development of Ipod and then the Iphone with what changed the history of mankind for the better.

As for Mr. Jhon, I do not believe that his product will be successful, it is most likely that it will not be of any use, but we will see what happens.

Thank you so much for the great enlightment, I really appreciate it.

Hello friend, the truth is that I think the project is great, thinking about the good of other people speaks very well of the creator. Unfortunately not everyone can access an expensive phone, so there should always be other options.

Nice view thanks for sharing your view on the topic.

I have the utmost respect for Sculley who, in his 70s, still feels like taking the huge task of launching a mobile phone, when he could comfortably sip a drink on the caribbean seaside as he's earnt the right to live the good life after retirement.
That said, I believe this venture he has no chance because the mobile phone market is already saturated by iOS and Android; marketing teaches us that only a disruptive innovation (like the iPhone was in 2007) can enter a saturated market with a chance of success. Examples of recent attempts include Windows Phone (7, 8 and 10), Blackberry (with their Android devices manufactured by Chinese partner TCL), Amazon (remember the Fire phone? no? exactly), Firefox OS, Ubuntu Touch, and Essential. About this last one: if Andy Rubin - who fathered Android, among other things - failed at it, I can't imagine how Sculley could ever stand a chance.

I share the same opinion on the topic but maybe we should relax and watch how things unfolds.

I don't know this market that well but maybe he sees a different type of behavior in phone usage. With all the online storage services and things like Windows 10 being online, maybe devices will not be all that important. Or if they are maybe there'll be a new trade-in market. Brand loyalty?

There are lots of unanswered questions friend, let's just see how things unfolds.
