If you ever wanted to stay calm and collected in tough situations, whether in life or business, I've got a trick you can use.

Stoics, ancient thinkers, might have mixed reviews, but their ideas can help you think better, especially in hard times.

I'm so sure about Stoic ideas that I've used them in my work and personal life.

Even though Stoicism is old, it's still popular today. This guide assumes you know a bit about philosophy, but I'll make it easy to understand even if you don't.

Here are 5 Stoic principles:

1. Keep realistic expectations:

Don't expect too much or judge too harshly. It just causes stress. It helps to think about both good and bad outcomes sometimes. When there is a large gap between what you want or expect and in reality, you will stressout quickly.

2. Focus on what you can change:

Don't waste energy on things you can't control. Start with yourself. There are many things in life that we can't control and it makes us unhappy so its better to focus on the things we can control. Western society is so obsessed with winning and success. But in reality, there are many things that you can't do even if you really want to. So just chill and focus on things you can do.

3. Stay calm in tough times:

It's called Apathy in Stoicism. You can learn to control your reactions. Humans have built-in fight-or-flight mechanism that kicks in whenever a threat arises. It works by changing your emotions so that you can react instantly and intensely. With practice you can learn to control this mechanism instead of letting it control you.

4. Understand your emotions:

Sometimes it's hard to know why you feel a certain way. Naming your feelings helps you handle them better. So by calming down enough to name the emotions and its root cause, you can find the best approach to the situation.

5. Live in tune with nature:

Understand yourself and the world around you. Use logic and reason to guide your actions. These principles can help you handle life's ups and downs better.
