Artificial Intelligence in the prevention and diagnosis of Coronavirus

in hive-175254 •  5 years ago

There is no doubt that we are living in difficult times, not only within Steemit but in the world in general. Falling oil prices, stock markets, and the worldwide epidemic that has brought the Coronavirus with it.

There are countries that to a large extent are already overcoming this reality (like China for example), others however are currently in the midst of this harsh epidemic, like Italy and Spain.

How quickly this disease has spread has not allowed the normal, routine checks they use at most airports to do much good.

Even in the laboratories, there is little progress to be made with manual and routine forms of work. In short, it is at these times that technology does its thing and allows all these processes to be improved.

In Latin America the COVID-19 has already arrived in some countries, without deaths or serious people, not for now, specifically in Bogota, capital of Colombia, country where I live, a first case was already diagnosed 4 days ago, a 19 year old girl who came from a trip through some European countries, including Italy, yesterday two more cases were diagnosed in Medellin, the second most important city of this country . I ask myself: are we really doing what is necessary to prevent the entry of more infected people with better controls in the different airports, ports, etc?

This worries me a little, considering the current conditions in Spain and Italy.

However, there is currently a lot of information that has been gathered with the experience in other countries and it is logical to think that the best way to face this situation and be able to process it faster is with the use of Artificial Intelligence (IA).
Considering that there are special machines that have been developed in some countries for rapid processing, these should already be in the nations that have not had outbreaks of COVID-19 (such as Venezuela) or that have few of them as in the case of Colombia.

For example, the Bolivian government is testing machines at its main airport that are subsidized by the Pan American Health Organization and the World Bank and use artificial intelligence to detect possible cases of coronavirus. **This is an effective action of the technology in the benefit of the Humanity.

These machines were created in Sweden, and went through an adaptation process in Bolivia to be used in their context. If this works as expected, once the tests are concluded, they will install these devices in the different borders with Brazil, Chile and Peru.

They did not reveal specific data regarding the functioning of the devices, but the Minister of Public Works of that country, Iván Arias, limited himself to say that it is the use of Artificial Intelligence, the processing of a large amount of data that they are going to test in the detection of possible cases of coronavirus.

I would also like to point out that Alibaba, a giant of the Chinese trade, has created a diagnostic algorithm to train a processor with artificial intelligence in which I include about 5000 tomographies of infected patients (confirmed) and compare them with tomographies of possible cases having a success rate of up to 96% in the diagnoses and not only that, but it is capable of doing it in 20 seconds. when an experienced radiologist can take up to 20 minutes to achieve a diagnosis.

Another breakthrough, no doubt.

I will be watching the results of this test at the Airport, if it is positive, (and I hope so), it would be another great achievement in the use of Artificial Intelligence.

I'll keep a close eye on everything that's going on. For reading me, thank you very much.

Hi @josevas217

It is beautiful when technology is used in the right ways to improve human life manna, in this case these initiatives seem great to me.
I recognize that I am scared that these gigantic databases that feed these AIs are hacked and used maliciously; In this sense, I believe that safety mechanisms and technology must be implemented, which must grow vertically and horizontally alongside the AI. I think that this way many conflicts would be avoided.

Friend @reinaldoverdu
Grateful for your input.
I think that's what they're working on, to set some ethical limits to be able to use AI, but, as you say, those databases can always be used for good or evil.

Thank hoy @project.hope

Seems like a lot of people are going to become billionares in the midst of all this "crisis". Nigeria got hit pretty bad by the oil prices but all my money is in crypto and are pegged against the dollar do as Naira falls, insort of make more money.

The money in crypt coins, and I imagine in different crypts. That's a good move, buddy @belomo

What I don't understand is why the prices of cryptomonies have collapsed in the face of this reality, although they were created to seek a little more security in times of crisis, outside the banks.

It is really baffling too I must say.

Dear @josevas217

Indeed, we are living in difficult times. Most people do not yet know how difficult it will be for many of us. Most people are still clueless and seem to think that everything will be back to normal "by summer".

There are countries that to a large extent are already overcoming this reality (like China for example)

It's kind of hard to tell if china really did overcome this problem. I've been following some people who live there and it seem that things are still very bad. And I've read already number of suggestions that China made illegal and criminal to post any video/tweets etc. online about corona virus. And that problem is still huge (especially outside larger cities) but China isn't transparent and is just waiting for entire world attention to change focus on europe and US.

Time will tell.

in Bogota, capital of Colombia, country where I live, a first case was already diagnosed 4 days ago,

Be safe my friend.

ps. AI would surely help to collect and analyze data, but the problem is lack of fast reaction from our authorities. And I'm afraid that AI cannot help here much :(

Yours, Piotr

Dear @crypto.piotr

You should follow the situation in China more closely, and have more knowledge than most, because of your ability to relate I have no doubt that you spend good contacts in that country.
Without a doubt, China as an authoritarian country must be putting obstacles in the way for information to come out, because economically with all this closing in its ports it must be very touched.

Here too, everything continues as if nothing had happened, on TV they only say that they sell their hands to prevent it, but they continue to play football with crowds of people, some concerts and festivals are still going on, as if nothing had happened.

This will get out of control.

As far as I'm concerned, saving food for a few months, there's no other way.
Thanks for your comment.
Always welcome.

Hi brother @josevas217.

A few weeks ago I wrote an article about using AI for early virus detection.

In fact, with this system the Chinese government was able to have knowledge and information about a possible outbreak of endemic disease in late 2019.
Yes, just as you read it: 2019!

The Chinese government either ignored the warnings or simply did not want to put its population on alert and cause panic. Now the consequences have spread to all continents.

Your friend, Juan.

Yeah @juanmolina, I read that publication, and I commented on it, too.
A sign that states could have done much more to avoid all of this current situation and simply weren't interested.

Thanks for your kind reply dear friend.

Hello dear @josevas217, good that today we can have these types of devices that can do a test and give an early diagnosis, this will help a lot to prevent and prevent further infections.

Another example where the technology is applied for the benefit of humanity.

As long as it's arranged, yes. But in the end, to a great extent, everything ends up with a tendency to commercialization as the main goal.

But it is good that it exists, of course.
Thank you for commenting.

It is a difficult time indeed although not everyone is aware yet as we still have people who go about their daily activities as usual, but technology is really doing a great and amazing job here.

To a large extent I think there is a lot of media manipulation in all this. However, it's something that's really affecting everyone.
Technology has a big role to play in this process, both for diagnosis and treatment.

I must commend alibaba's effort on this issue, this one of the great impact that AI has brought and we will not forget that during the period of a terrible epidermic called conoravirus, AI was our saving grace

There is no doubt that AI has been a great weapon to combat this whole current problem. But the best thing would be to implement it to avoid these things.
Thank you for commenting.

China has greatly utilized artificial intelligence to compact the spread of this virus, and this is one great advantage of artificial intelligence that has been strongly demonstrated.
