"When you are used to privilege, equality feels like oppression." Brian Sims.
Hello Project Hope community, today I want to talk about something that most likely happens in other countries than the one I live in, and when we talk about society, politics and economics, there are many nuances that we must always consider, in this case, I would like to make a very personal approach, with which we may or may not agree, it is respectable.
First I must say that the life of this character, Brian Sims, is very interesting, he has been able to have great success in the sports and political world, even after openly declaring himself homosexual, he does not hide it at all, but his temper and his disposition have led him to be represented by his professionalism. A great achievement in my opinion.
But beyond talking about the life of this character, I want to comment on the phrase that I have brought to share, in which there is a deep message, no doubt, and that leads to a great reflection. Obviously, it is born in the mind of a person who for having his sexual inclination very clear, and that although it is currently accepted, I can not imagine all his experiences as a young teenager who came him to think in such a phrase.
And it is much more interesting than such a message, which sounds more like a social claim to those who enjoy some privileges, to take into account that while it is true that for different reasons these privileges are granted or earned, equality will always be a necessity, or at least that's how I see it.
He holds an important political office in Pennsylvania, in fact, he is the first to be in such an office in the House of Representatives to come out as openly gay, and for that reason, that it is he, as a politician, who says it, I think carries a lot more weight.
Most politicians worldwide enjoy great benefits and privileges, particularly I see things in Colombia, which is where I currently reside, that do not seem logical to me, a politician in Congress, who earns a thousand dollars but a doctor earns 1000 or 1500, or a nurse earns 500 ... this seems to me the most absurd thing in the world, for example.

And I can assure, that none of them will find it fair or balanced that any of these professionals that I have mentioned charge a salary similar to theirs, much less that equal the salaries that congressmen have with that of a doctor, much less.
Surely there if they would raise their voices against that, and they would never allow it, because it would violate their rights, it would worsen their conditions, and of course, they could feel oppressed the poor....
For this reason, when I read such a phrase and saw who had said it, well, it made me fly and reflect. And I wanted to share these thoughts with whoever likes to read my post. Greetings.

Greetings friend @josevas217
A very good reading, it is a reality that is lived worldwide and I think much more accentuated in South America, I start quoting a paragraph that catches my attention.
This sad reality that all politicians enjoy countless privileges, in addition to an inexplicable salary but earn too much money, while professionals in different areas, including the medical who are those who really save lives, are denigrated and with very bad salaries, and without all the amount of additional benefits of a politician.

hello @josevas217,
I personally believe that equality is a concept that is not quite real and that only hurts societies that try to implement it, in the book "rebellion on the farm" when the pigs take power and promise equality for all, The animals believe in that noble purpose but as time goes by the pigs determine that we are all equal but there are some more equal than others, in societies it is normal that a group takes power and after a while they see that equality is more useful to maintain social struggles but not to govern, in Venezuela Chavez promised equality now everyone is equally rich and the common people are equally poor, from my point of view what is really real is equity, a system where everyone has according to their effort and capacity. .

There is a hint of reason in what you say but taking your example of a doctor-nurse, certainly the knowledge is paid for, the effort too.
You must understand that there are many classifications of nurses as there are of doctors according to their specialization, there are for nurses in the branch to which they are dedicated.
classifications are mostly earned when they are given away, because they are simply not taken into account.

Hello @josevas217 friend,
What you describe in your post makes a lot of sense when we compare it with the already well-known example of Venezuela where a teacher like me earns just $ 4 a month and the deputies, congressmen, and other high officials in the government exceed these figures in an exorbitant way.
There is much to say about this issue and there will be many who oppose or simply do not understand the paradox that it implies.
See you

Even more so if we consider that most of those in charge in Venezuela do not even have a university degree, and I would not doubt that not even high school... Yes, a paradox that not everyone can understand.

Hello @josevas217
I keep this expression of your publication "Most politicians worldwide enjoy great benefits and privileges", unfortunately this is the evil that dominates modern society, and it is not an exclusive issue of countries in South America, it is an evil that abounds in any region of the planet, where politicians assume privileges they do not deserve and while professionals suffer from low income, which in most cases is not enough to live in dignity.
Best regards, be well.

Yes, it is something that can be seen in all countries, it is a reality. And I don't think it's going to change any time soon.

is a topic that I never thought of commenting on because it is difficult not to fall into political discussions, but it is true that all politicians in the world, not only in Colombia, use the country's resources to enrich themselves.
