Will the fall in oil slow the progress towards clean energy? Reflections and future challenges

in hive-175254 •  last month

Friends of Project HOPE, great greetings, happy start to the week. Today I wrote early, in relation to the price of oil and the drop it is having, which has been going on for months, and how this affects countries that support their economy on the sale of a single product, I leave you the link in case you want to review.

But right now I am thinking about something that is related to this issue and has to do with the future of clean energies, I know that it is a topic that can lend itself to multiple interpretations, the detail is that although it is true that the trend towards clean energy is becoming more and more established, the reality is that this leap implies large investments, and on the other hand, and this is what makes me think about this issue, I think that if oil continues to fall, it could greatly slow down the pace of the so-called clean energies.

I know that there is a great push today to abandon fossil fuels, the detail is that the countries that are large producers and exporters of oil, I do not think they will want to abandon this domain, at least not in the short term.

But in addition, another detail is added, and it is the fact that if a country buys oil to produce energy, and its price drops, it is probably more economical to continue using the same energy production systems based on hydrocarbons, rather than having to invest hundreds or billions of dollars in being able to generate all the infrastructure to generate clean energy.

Of course, I know that there are global plans to make this a reality, so that at some point in the next few decades we can completely give way to clean energy, and abandon the use of fossil energy, but only time will tell.

It must also be considered that those countries that depend solely on oil and gas for their economic subsistence, much less will want to abandon oil exploitation, since it is the only thing that sustains them.

I think that difficult times are coming, and I don't have a magic bullet or a crystal ball, but every social and energetic change has added great social and economic turbulence, and I don't think that this time it won't be the same. I don't know what you think about it, greetings.
