Polymethylmethacrylate as a protective shield against the coronavirus

Among the main recommendations issued by the World Health Organization to prevent people from contracting the new coronavirus (Covid-19), biosecurity measures include the use of masks or mouth masks, frequent hand washing and social distancing.

However, as governments seek new strategies to safely revive their economic and social activities, new biosecurity measures are being adopted week after week.

In this regard, it should be emphasized that among the new biosecurity measures being adopted to prevent new Covid-19 infections, the most widely used in developed countries is the use of protective plastic shields based on polymethylmethacrylate, also known as acrylic or acrylic glass.

The trade name of Polymethylmethacrylate is Plexiglas, these are structures in the form of plastic sheets or screens that help combat the spread of Coronavirus, and is currently being used extensively as the main biosecurity measure mainly in European countries, it is worth mentioning that at the end of last year this type of plastic material began to be used to develop protective shields specifically for students, workers, and customers.

It is intuitive that the widespread use of Polymethylmethacrylate can be extended on a global scale, because they represent an extremely versatile strategy by acting as a biosafety barrier element that prevents contact between people.

The protection industry does not stop growing and every day more and more solutions against the virus are being implemented, everything seems to be focused on reactivating the global economy, vaccines, masks and biosecurity shields are one of the many solutions that can lift the economy of a country, I just hope that all this happens soon and we return to a relative normality.

Ha friend, interesting information, I believe that little by little the methods of protection against this new virus will be perfected. It is good to see that they are still working on it and that the health of the people is important. Thanks for the information, greetings!

Certainly science has poured all its machinery and time to present alternatives to prevent the spread and subsequent contagion of Covid-19. Thanks for your visit @franyeligonzalez.

Greetings friend @lupafilotaxia. This alternative protection seems to be more comfortable, certainly does not hinder communication and cover a larger area of the face, but I think it should not be considered as the only measure of protection but as an element combined with the mask and precautionary measures.

You are right, unfortunately in Europe I have seen in the news people in restaurants divided by this plastic glass but without using a mask, it also happens the same in educational centers, obviously this as you express it should be used in conjunction with other biosecurity measures. Thanks for your visit friend @emiliomoron.
