The years go by, and sometimes because we are so busy, we do not realise that our cells are ageing every day. But when we manage to take a break from our busy lives and look at our bodies, we can see that our skin and face are no longer the same.
This situation is accentuated when we see our own children, or those of friends or relatives, grow up and many of them even become a family. We can feel many things when we enter into this context, even as a woman, being afraid of wrinkles and of losing the beauty of our skin with longevity.
Psychology, aware of what ageing can mean for men, has studied it in depth and this has served as a guide to help us enjoy this moment. It is no coincidence that, throughout history, most of us have heard that the human being has been in constant search of the elixir of life, which prolongs our stay and prevents ageing.
Perhaps this is one of our greatest fears, because we associate old age with the loss of faculties and the proximity of death, and this is a subject that can make us sad.
These ideas are in agreement with Erick Ericsson who, when studying the stages of human life, considers old age as a phase where dependency behaviours can be established, in view of the physiological and health limitations that arise. For the author, this phase "prepares man for the final stage, death and the experience of loneliness" (Erickson, 1963).
As we mature, our cells divide and age, and this has to do with the shortening of the telomeres of our chromosomes. Senescence also indicates that our reproductive age has passed and that our capacities are becoming limited.
Our attitude and physical activity will be fundamental to keep us active and healthy. This, together with a good diet, reflective reading, affirmative phrases, introspection, recognition of our history and understanding that each day is a new opportunity, will make us accept and see our existence in a positive way.
The idea is to conceive this natural process as a moment in our lives, in which we also have a lot to offer, because our experiences will be decisive for our descendants...
Are you afraid of growing old?

Hello @lynnmargullys!
Very thoughtful post my friend. The truth sometimes if it scares me because we do not know how we will get to that stage and if God will not give life and health to live many years, but mostly because of the dependence that is created which also affects those around us. However, what we must do is to take good care of ourselves to stay as healthy as possible for longer. Greetings!

That's right, very good contribution to this publication. Indeed, keeping a healthier life makes our senescence more pleasant than it could be if we don't have good habits. Life calls us to take better care of ourselves if our goal is to stay healthy ...

Hello @lynnmargullys
Interesting topic. The "eternal youth" is something that man has always sought, but I don't know if it will ever be achieved. One of those important points is the study of the telomere and how it will be cut with each cell division, however, no great advances have been made in this aspect.
One of the things that could worry me about getting older, more than fearing it, is the fact of getting sick and having an extreme dependence, I would not like that at all. But, time will tell what will happen.

I understand you perfectly... the fear is shared in this regard, and I know that it happens to many people. As a woman, ageing upsets my thoughts, but as Arjona says, we have to put life into the years... Life has a rhythm, and how hard it is for us to respect it... thank you for this great and thoughtful contribution ...

Hi @lynnmargullys, answering your question, no, I am not afraid of getting old, but on the contrary I am afraid of not reaching that ripe old age and not being able to enjoy my children or in their shortcomings my grandchildren when I have them. For this reason I ask God every day to grant me the blessing of seeing them grow up and educate them correctly. Greetings very nice your post that leads us to reflect. Ah the negative side of reaching old age is having to see your loved ones leave painful things that you do not want but are part of life.

Indeed, the overall goal is to share much more with our children and grandchildren. Fear can be real and the way to avoid it is to take care of ourselves. Some habits are not recommended for our health. Your contribution gives me food for thought.... Thank you for it.

Ageing is one phase everybody prays to get to, nobody wish to die young. Ageing can be frustrating if the person has alot of dreams and aspirations unfulfilled.
