Physical exercise and the brain

Our health depends on many things, including diet and physical exercise. Day-to-day life often leads us to eat foods rich in sugars and fats that can do us much more harm if we add a sedentary lifestyle.

Science has tried to explain what happens in our brain when we adopt physical activity as one of our habits. According to Andrey Sequeira Cordero, a researcher at the INISA Neuroscience Centre, when we engage in physical activity, we cause our muscles to contract and this will produce the release of chemical substances, whose message will travel through all the organs of the body, including our brain.

  • Dopamine: this chemical helps us not only to control the stress we are burdened with on a daily basis.

  • Serotonin: it is involved in generating satisfaction, good sleep and, of course, improves sexual pleasure.

  • Norepinephrine: contributes to improved attention, a good and active awakening and a feeling of pleasure.

It has also been proven that exercise contributes to the formation of new neurons - neurogenesis - a process we previously thought impossible. This process is mainly generated in the area of the hippocampus, where the learning and memory processes take place.

Although confinement can keep us locked up, surely at home we can practice some exercise routines that will definitely make us feel much better. This will improve many of our habits and make us go through the day with better enthusiasm.

If we feel safe to go out in an open place, it would also be a good offer for you, because the environment, the green areas and the oxygen will help you to generate more pleasure substances that will make you keep your balance.

To do this, keep your distance, wear a mask in crowded places, do not use someone else's objects and use antibacterial or alcohol. If we manage to incorporate physical activity into our days, our cells regain strength, they oxidise less and we are calmer to face new challenges...

Thanks to you for appreciating the advice... when we do exercises we release these substances and generate more ideas from creativity...a hug.
