Reputation is everything in business and in life. It has been said that a reputation is the sum of your decisions, preceeds you and can be destroyed in an instant.

Have you ever seen a building demolished? What takes months to build is destroyed in minutes. Think about what went into building that structure. There was a conceptual phase in which the building was proposed, financing was secured, the building was drafted by an architect and it was built by laborers. It took a long time to build the structure, and it took a long time to build your reputation.

Make sure what you do is above board. A mistake you make can destroy a lifetime of good intent. If you make a mistake, come forward and make amends. Hiding things and acting immorally is a sure way to ruin your reputation. Build your reputation like you would a building by focusing on the bricks, mortar and steel that are your daily activities. Strong and just actions are the building materials that will embolden you and your reputation.

As a business person, focus on win-win scenarios and be honest with those who you deal with. Be transparent and honest. Give your customers quality products and make sure your employees are working in a safe environment.

Before you act, ask yourself if your actions are just, would you want others to know these actions and are you proud of what you have done. Do right and be just. Build a reputation like a fine and strong building.

It is a question of equilibrium and makes sure you always act honestly.

The painful truth about life is what you have described it is usually very difficult to build something but destruction comes as fast as a snap of our finger, in business it is important to always tread with caution.

Absolutely true.
