The Future of Electrical Aircrafts in the Aviation Industry

The future of electricity will be a good one that will provide cost effectiveness, imagine when we no longer have to use fuel or oil, everywhere we look neater and even more affordable. Have you thought about an electrical airplane before?

With the idea of electrical cars flying around, we may have as well imagined an electrical aircraft, but guess what, we are not the only ones who have thought about electrical aircrafts, some scientists have also tried their hands on a few of such great inventions. The aviation industry is a major cause of pollution in our world today as they emit a large amount of CO2 constantly every time there is movement.

Let’s a take a quick glance at past trial on electrical aircrafts.

It is surprising to discover that the idea of electrical aircraft has been in existence since the 1970’s, some French scientists who were also army officers tried to turn their idea into reality in the 1880’s but as much as they tried, the battery was not able to hold as much energy required to fly, but after several years nickel batteries were invented and it was finally able to power an electrical craft this was an exciting adventure but unfortunately the battery could not power the aircraft for more than fifteen minutes.

Lithium Ion batteries also came into lime light in the 1980’s and this battery was finally able to do so much than the Nickel batteries, moving fast to 2015 we already had aircrafts that are totally solar powered moving around for months with a speed of 28 to 34 mph.

There have been some successful achievements as scientists keep working hard to achieve a good result:
As at 2007, some aircrafts were produced and the battery system was placed in a glider it is a two sitter plane that is still used till today, although it can only move over a short distance.

The problem with battery usage.

In order to have a battery that will have the capacity to power an aircraft according to the type of battery systems we have, the battery size must be large enough and the type of battery size we are talking about is a very big one that may in turn weigh the aircraft down.
There are several safety risk question linked to flying aircrafts:

What if the battery cells catches fire?

What if battery of the aircraft goes very low while flying and there is no means of an immediate recharge?

The risk of testing the plane with humans.

Technology surprises us more and more every day, it would be great to see those planes in action!

It might just take time before we eventually see them in use.

I suppose that the use of solar cells will be one of the solutions, also wind energy, scientists and inventors They should be working on minimizing the size of the battery.

I think some are already working on battery size, so very soon we should be able to use them in future.

@papa-mensa first of all very nice article , electricity aircraft is good for small duration flight but it will helps in reducing fuel used and extraction.

Yes, focus will be shifted from fuel and coal soonest.
